Serena Williams cries "discrimination" over drug testing

Many people have a problem with this incident because she is a woman and she's black.

But a guy like McEnroe built his brand off of him being the bad boy of tennis. It is a bit of a double standard.

John was a guy who didn't like to practice, didn't take tennis seriously and he was still extremely good at the sport. The older people hated it but the younger people Loved his over the top gimmick. His meltdowns were epic

Do you still not get it

He was still penalized points and even DQ'd for his behaviour on court, though.

Serena seems to also be treated like a rockstar by many people for "standing up to women's rights", so I don't see the difference here? What has race or gender to do with it? In what sense does that play any factor whatsoever to Serena's treatment, outside of those making excuses for her behaviour?

I'm sure that young people back in the day also saw McEnroe as a younger dude standing up to the rules created by old men. But in reality he was just an asshole.

People love to make excuses for their heroes, and sports stars love to have excuses made for their losses, especially if they are excuses that someone other than themselves believe (although they can live with just believing it by themselves). That's about all there is to this case.

Yes people were entertained by his melt downs and I'm sure he knew it. So this is supposed to mean the game penalty that Serena got was because racism sexism?

I think the entire thing was a joke and what led up to it was a joke as well. I think the decision wasnt necessarily racist but i think the outrage here is most certainly fueled by racism and sexism.

I 100% believe they would never say the same things about a McEnroe type player that was playing today. Heck, like I said the younger fans fucking loved him. He WAS the bad boy of tennis. He was a rockstar and acted accordingly. He even acted crazy across the net aimed at his opponents.

Not when you piece together the poster with their past ideas and feelings on anything involving race.

Like you can show me a posters name and I'll automatically know what their post will be before ive even read it. Like YORKIST. Or KNIGHTTEMPLAR
Exactly. The same alt right posters always are going to lean one way. It is impossible for them to look at an individual issue for what it is. Everything must fit their agenda

All I'm saying is there is def a bit of a double standard here. I don't even think that's a crazy thing to say

To be fair, only Ripskater said that Serena's bad sportsmanship was because she's a "ghetto" black single mother, and I tend to lump him in with el Anciano anyway.

Well I'm certain there was more than one thread about this at one point in time and I've seen some of the posts. The outrage is so phony it isn't even funny

You actually think the referee was racist to penalize her?

No I edited my post. That was a typo, sorry to confuse you. I don't think the fiasco was coming from racism But think the outrage most certainly is

ok, thanks for the clarification. well I guess it depends on what outrage you are referring to.

I thought her leaning on the sexism card was cringe worthy when I watched the clip of her exchange badgering the referee. She let her emotions get away from her. Pushed him too far and got penalized for it.

I doubt there's a lot of tennis fans in the War Room.

It is funny that McEnroe made his fame by acting like a lunatic on the court. His play was important but his personality put him over the top.

He was like the rockstar of tennis at the time and he was hated by the older school people like Jimmy Connors.

The fans loved John for his insane personality. That was his gimmick
I hated him.
He was also way funnier as a retard than Serena. People were laughing at him constantly. “Here goes that retarded pussy, again!”
We had a tennis court beside our Elementary school, we would do McEnroe impressions that included thumbsucking and complaining about passing cars, the colour of the lawn, etc.
He was a laughed at bitch. A circus clown.

He was penalized at times but his behavior built his brand. I don't see Serena building her brand by adopting a pro McEnroe type attitude for the game.

Some of The outrage here is def coming from a racist viewpoint. You can piece things together when it comes to certain posters here.

I don't want to get off on a tangent here but outspoken loud black athletes have not been historically loved by white america. I don't think that is a crazy thing to say either. There are plenty of examples to go around

Yes but also the tennis rockstar. He was massively popular

I do remember him being disliked by older people. They didn't like his attitude and jimmy connors fucking hated it. But still he built his brand off of it

theres a Mayberry thread also.

Tennis is an awesome sport. Shame more people aren't into it. I played since I was a kid, my aunt and not uncle ran a big indoor facility for like 40 years. I took lessons and played all the time. Amazing sport and extremely hard. Like really fucking hard.

You keep saying he built a brand off of it like this is supposed to mean something. Looks at any sport and you will find polarizing figures with fans and haters alike.

I've been getting into it in the last couple of years and play recreationally. Great sport. Been trying to figure out the kick serve which is proving elusive. You're lucky to have had access to facilities and trainers at a young age.

I mean she did go nuts but I guess that happens in all sports at the highest levels from time to time. Maybe a man would get a bit more leeway in the same situation. I can't make that call though. I do think a lot of the outrage here comes solely from racism though. Not everyone but def two handfuls worth of posters fit that category

I don't really remember her acting like this throughout her career tho.

Yet a thread about him would never be created where this much hate is shown.
If McEnroe's fits happened yesterday, there would have a been a thread made.

The part about Serena that gets so much interest is her entitled attitude and the social justice oppression Olympics she plays. McEnroe was a spoiled brat too, but I don't know that he used sexism and him being a father as an excuse. Which made Serena's thread a big war room issue with the social justice. And like I said, McEnroe was last playing like 25 years ago.

I can't stand team sports or ball sports, but tennis is mainstream news here.
Probably even bigger than identity politics in the US.

I even gave lessons to little kids during the summer camps. Oh I most certainly got lucky because of my aunt and uncle.

There was a time I was playing a few hours every day for an entire summer with the club pros who were damn good players and again the following summers. I even got a lot of court time durin the winter. It was an indoor facility. I became a very strong club player at one point in time. I havent played in years and I really want to get back into it. Lessons with a good pro are close to a hundred An hour. That's pricey.

I had a wicked top spin forehand. I hit the ball real hard and I had a sick slice second serve.

My backhand was always my weakest aspect of the game and I should've practiced that side much much more. I like the one handed backhand also. And my first serve was decent but not amazing. I had a way better second serve.
