Serena Williams cries "discrimination" over drug testing

That's fine. Laudable even.

But you're going the wrong way with this.

EDIT: I tried editing this and i don't know what the hell happened to it

The BBCode editor intervened.

Whoa! A black athlete in a predominantly white sport is suspicious about having been demonstrably singled out? And it's possible, but not express, that she worries her race might be of note? The gall!

Huge if true. Very thread-worthy. Would read again.

@panamaican.

What's the spin this time?
Spin? Common's opinion matters why? Is he the repository of her thoughts on her current career? Don't be stupid. Should we ask your ex-gf from 10 years ago to explain your thoughts on something you're experiencing today? Serena's married, ask her husband. Not some random dude from her past.

Common? You have to be fucking joking.

Common's opinion on the thoughts of someone he's longer dating don't really matter. Give me the opinion of her husband, that would at least be timely.

You're a smart fella , youve atleast got an inkling of a notion that she's insinuating that the evil omnipresent white man is out to get her. Your boy Trotsky ^ up there gets it.

He's filling in for Jah-Rule who is right now busily preparing his doctoral thesis for Oxford University's faculty of philosophy.

I've got no such inkling and that's my point. That it's silly to read into her statement some racial grievance when nothing she's said has supported it. She herself references other American tennis players getting tested less than her. There are numerous black tennis players other than her.

So she's alleging that the USADA is being racist against her for being black but not being racist against the other black tennis players...including her very own sister?

Logically it makes zero sense. It makes far more sense for her to be alleging that she, individually, is being targeted. Not for race but simply because she's Serena and they have an issue with her, not black athletes, black tennis players, or black female tennis players in general.

Well, to be fair, it's a long road that must be traveled before we're anywhere close to viewing people as individuals. Let's start by doing away with making note of the "First Black" to do anything that a member of a different race has done. Let's do away with Black History Month. How about convincing BET to change its name and programming to be inclusive to all races? Maybe the Image awards should go away. Alos, the NAACP might want to spread out and represent people who aren't "Colored" as they themselves apparently like to say.

I work in a technical field and have seen copies of "Hispanic Engineer" magazine. Yes, it exists and soley exists to make note of Hispanic Engineers. You'll have a hard time moving past grouping people if the people themselves wish to be viewed as a "Black Astronaut", "Hispanic Engineer", "Transgender Model", etc etc.

I agree with you on principal here, but a few things...

1. Don't ever, ever, conflate race with the whole trans bullshit. They aren't the same and never will be.

2. Overall I disagree with grouping adults in the way a "Hispanic Engineer" magazine might, but publications and content like that serves a greater purpose. Things like that are useful, especially for children and young adults who belong to those groups, it can provide them with inspiration and motivation to be something different than what they may see in their everyday life. Not everyone comes from a place where they feel like they can be anything and everything.

That's why it matters. From personal experience I'll tell you I never once thought about playing golf until I saw Tiger, a young fit dude with brown skin ripping up the tour. Before that I thought golf was a boring ass joke of a sport played by old white men who weren't actual athletes. The only sports that existed to me were football, basketball and boxing. But when he came along, man, someone with some swagger. While I'm Latino and not black, Tiger is the same tone as my brother, mom and a bunch of my family, and he looks a hell of a lot like my brother. Seeing someone who looked like me and my family changed the way I saw the sport. I watched Tiger every chance I could, as a young kid I save up $70 bucks and bought an old golf set complete with an ancient leather bag from a widow down the block and started playing when I could and going to driving ranges for fun. I even took a summer job as a caddy. Literally 100% because I saw someone I could relate to in that space.

I don't believe people should get extra points or a pat on the back solely for being part of a group. But I think in many cases it is a good thing to applaud people who are pioneers in being successful and representing their demographic in a notable or positive fashion. And I hope you can see why it is important for people, especially young kids, to have role models they can relate to, especially where their demographic may not have a lot of representation.

GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY E-PENIS!!!!!

Hah!

It's automatic. It put the bold close tags inside your quote opening tags and broke them. You have to use the bbcode editor to fix it (same deal if anyone finds large sections of their post with the strikethrough by the way).

You must have missed @Striker Fox 's post showing demonstrably that she in fact has not been singled out.

I would let her sit on my face

Judging her based on her physique seems silly. Have you guys ever seen or been around a black woman before? These girls are more athletic than most men of other races. Not saying they're better athletes than any men, but jesus these women are just as gifted as the African American dudes. Just the way it goes.
