Seated cable row vs bent over row

Whats the over/under on whether or not iohc86 can toss his own salad?

not gonna even bother reading all the way through this thread, but my opinion is that BORs have got to be better than cable... Just more muscles being engaged period. And while yes the cable allows for a dynamic motion instead of a fixed path, it's still pretty much a straight line you'll be pulling it in.

John great replies.

Hunto LOL....well played sir...

People who have this type of thinking are generally beginners in their respective sport and think that they can circumvent the technique training time by mere strength gains alone. I am 220lb and when I tried to roll with a 140 lb brown belt in bjj one time....he put me in a fucking pretzel...granted i am a total newb but i had 80 lb and a shit ton of strength on the guy yet he attacked my joints individually with his whole body....thats the reason why submission wrestling/grappling is so effective against a wide range of people...

somehow i dont think TS will be missed.....ok i lied....:::cries himself to sleep:::

D'Son, you don't do seated rows often enough... no wonder you got tapped

Thanks Dson.

I made that mistake when I started getting into jiu-jitsu, too, thinking that I could overcome a lack of training partners by trying to replicate stuff with weights. I'da been better off doing normal strength training and watching more instructional vids.

lol yeh Mark Hunt one arm curled Fedor a 230lbs man. thats exactly what happened...

The barbell row (with a little bit of hip drive) is one of the manliest most badass exercises there is.

You know threadstarter... There -are- technical ways to finish an armbar that dont require hulk strength. Use the gym to get generally stronger and when you encounter something in grappling that challenges you put in the effort to find solutions that dont require strength

Thruthfully you do need strength but in training you should seek out the solutions that feel effortless, that means you have put yourself in a position where you have several muscles isolating fewer muscles off theirs and unless you are freakishly much weaker than the other person you should win that battle. In that scenario it wouldnt matter iff the seated row had 5% more effect on the exact muscle combination you use in your prefered arm-grip armbar break since proper technique should give you enough leverage to easily pull off the move.

Short translation = roll more, drill more, get stronger.

I am new to this forum, so I haven't been around reading how people deal newbie questions. But this thread is a microcosm of everything really good and everything really bad about the internet.

People asking questions and others giving awesome answers degenerates into another keyboard pissing contest, one of those situations that proves 99% of people out there are jerks. And it really sucks because in a short while of reading this forum I was impressed with how cool and professional many posters here are, but like everything on the internet it gets watered down.

"part of winning an argument is having the other party be willing to listen to you. If you insult the other person, no matter how great your point/argument is, you will always lose." One of the more quote worthy posts I have seen in awhile, kudos to devil.

I always laugh when people say the internet is a mean place. How fucking sheltered has your life been that you get distraught over online text?

I think there's some big misconception that people will just stop being people the moment they log in. Wrong.

Yeah but I think the web is a lot more like road rage than normal interaction. People talk all sorts of shit when their in their car. Anonymity breeds a lot more assholes than normal person to person interaction.

Maybe so, but what can you do about it?

You flip a road-raging asshole the bird and he almost feels validated in his raged state. You smile and laugh at the fucker and the jokes on him. Just sayin.

Whats your point Bacon? Everyone should just going around and be rude because most people are doing it already?

Like I said this thread showed the best and worst of the internet. People giving answers that go deep into talking about the physiological reasons why you should use one exercise over another. And you also have the third person responding with "go Benoit yourself"

You just really have to separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak when you are trying to get any information off of a message board.

All he wanted was to argue that cable rows>barbell rows. And after a few responses, he knew this was a place that preferred barbells > machines. Still, he persisted. That is trolling. He got what he deserved.

For sure. There are fewer consequences for being a jerk online. It's a scientific fact that people are bigger jerks online than in real life (or at least hide it better in real life)

I know, I ment to add that the TS ended up being a moran as well in one of my other posts.

It's just that you S&P guys/gals come on so hard. To be honest if someone makes it to this forum to ask a question about strength they already have more potential than most people you see in the gym working the chrome machines.

I guess my point was that the regulars of this board are better than this, no need to tear people down, just keep spreading the gospel! :)

Forum lesson:
If you ask a question...be prepared for an answer, wether you like that answer or not. Dont come into a forum with your mind already made up, if it is already made up then dont ask for help!
Dont get offended if everyone disagrees with you, look deep inside and consider that you might actually be wrong!
You will get fail posts, benoit yourself, your a fuckin troll, and many other colorful responses. Some are warranted, some are not, but its all part of the game.
If you cant handle constructive criticism concealed by snide remarks then please go somewhere else, toughen your skin up then come back and play if you wish. But only if you are able to handle the fact that you might not know everything and you are now willing to learn.
