Sean O'Malley is NOT a Star.

He has an awesome style. If he's not a star it's because UFC is shit at promoting.

Its hilarious to me how many people lose sight of this.

Sean is arguably as good as it gets for fan friendly style, and he's very active outside the sport on new media.

This is overall a really weak card and the Sphere is a cool gimmick but its priced extraordinarily high.

I made a sandwich last night. Sliced sourdough with roasted turkey, shredded cabbage, Swiss cheese, Dijon, pickles. Tossed it in the oven for a few minutes on air fry. That cabbage shined, pal.
I'll sincerely apologize to the cabbage.

Sean has a great fighting style but most of his fans are 15 and younger. He's talked about it several times, that his fans are kids that don't buy ppvs.
Anyone who appreciates striking is a fan of Sean O Malley. I fucking love watching his fights because it's beautiful to watch.and I'm definitely not 15 years of age lol

Couldn't give a fuck about his on line persona.
Fwiw whenever I hear him on pressers he seems.pretty reasonable for an adolescent.

Sean seems to be pretty good, but I think he connects with a pretty narrow demographic that appreciate his gimmicks and lifestyle. Personally I can't relate but I'm old.

With the cheapest seats for UFC 306 being $757, I would say he needs broader appeal. This event is not sold out and ticket prices are coming down...

Could you try tossing O'Malley in the oven with swiss cheese. ? It's science, I'm a scientist

O'Malley is more of a sweet than a savory eh?

So Suga would be more in the candy realm... Perhaps a nut-"brittle" to complement his suga-shins as well as his candy colored hair....

That being said,,, I like O'Malley in the cage.

Yeah there is just a huge lack of stars in UFC these days. Sean is actually a good fighter, he has good hand speed and has quite powerful hands for 135, he is accurate as well. But as far as personality he just comes off as a stoner in every interview, those stoners that are super laid back and almost half asleep, he seems sleepy when he talks. He doesn't have great comebacks either in back and forths with opponents , he takes time to think of what he is gonna say.

But this isn't just him, its everyone now in UFC, something is lacking and missing, that buzz and excitement.
Sadly, that's what happens when guys fight once or twice a year tops.
Whoever fights often and has exciting style is easy for people to follow and cheer for.

as much as i like him as a fighter and i like to watch him fighting, his look is pretty extreme, something you cannot unseen, for someone above 35 years old and he may be interesting for people his age outside the cage.

it's not that simple to promote a guy who's the physical, living embodiment of the recently big "cultural" changes that are basically dividing the western population.

I have a doubt that matters as much as you suggest, but also consider as promoter the UFC is tasked with attracting new fans. Its well studied the UFC has a long term problem with regards to their aging audience. They've failed to attract a suitable volume of new, younger fans.

Setting that aside you have a powerful index of incompatibility with success here:

- This card is notably weak throughout

- Merab is not a broadly popular fighter

- 135lbs is not a signature division in the sport outside hardcore fans

- Sphere is a gimmick and may be cool, but the ticket prices are astronomical

Nothing really shocking here.

I don't disagree with OP, he doesn't have that charisma and star power we've seen from others. He's got the rainbow haired, pothead, cuck market on lock tho.

All that said he gets it done in the cage. I'll give him that.

He doesn't really seem great at promoting fights. All of the big fights have stories surrounding them. Sean said he was annoyed that the UFC isn't promoting his fight, but he himself isn't doing anything to promote it. I'm sure he's still a big draw for 135, but not compared to guys like Izzy or Jones.

This feels like a true experiment. Don't think they care about ppv numbers with this one.

O'Malley might suck as a human, but he probably pulls decent numbers. He's probably not full fledged star, whatever that means, but he brings in more than most at bw

O'Malley is a star in the Gen Z, gamer, social media crowd. But that doesn't necessarily translate to ppv sales. Most of those folks are too broke to buy a ppv, and too disinterested to care about mma.
negative. he popular on the mma guru nelk boys dana white kid rock type of fanbases which is a major turn off to casuals.
he plays both sides . rainbow hair and open relationship lifestyle doesnt match his views. hence why its not translating
well. basically hes all over the place.

but hes really no different than all the other so called comedic personalities in the mma atmosphere.
like joe rogan and his boys. they all are DRY.... no season at all...

I'm a fan of Sean. I listen to his podcast every week. He's the one who said the majority of his fans are kids. He was explaining why he's not a ppv star. If he ever let's his words flow like he does on his podcast, at a presser, he'll be even more popular. He has a great sense of humor, it's just different.

This, I'm old, all O'Malley's tattoos (I have tattoos) and colored perms doesn't make me no difference. Sean's personality is stale and bland. Look at Strickland, he's outspoken, real, and crazy. He garners more attention than O'Malley just because of the difference in personalities.
