Sean O'Malley is NOT a Star.

He is what passes for stardom in the UFC these days. He's not a McGregor or even a Pereira, but people like him.

And he has fairly exciting fights, in which he often finishes, despite his deeply unfortunate appearance.

I think the superstar era is behind us, it's not the fighters fault, the audience is just not the same.

Conor wouldn't become a superstar if he was starting his UFC career now .
If 24 yr old conkr showed up tomorrow he would be a star again. Sometimes certain people just have the IT factor and he does

Concur OP.

I will watch an O'Malley fight.

I ignore him the rest of the time. His whole schtick sucks. He is adored by weed-addled juvies.

OK. Thanks.

Sadly, that's what happens when guys fight once or twice a year tops.
Whoever fights often and has exciting style is easy for people to follow and cheer for.
Very true and good point, agreed. The champs in UFC are so inactive. Thats why Alex is a breath of fresh air, he actually wants to fight. Even though he talks no English, he has become very popular, and the simple reason is because he actually ya know fights! lol.

Suga is on the way to being the best BW of all time in all seriousness.

From what I can tell, Sean's done a fantastic job on all fronts.

He's legit. The Yan fight was proof. It wasn't some fluke win or anything but grind it out with one of the top guys of the division.

Since then, he's stayed active in competing and defending, which isn't a quality we see as much anymore.

O'Malley might suck as a human

lol what? How does he suck as a human? He's a nice guy, a great father, goes around giving money away at wal-mart and paying people's rent.

What's he done to make you think he's a shit human? I literally cannot think of a single bad thing he's done...

I disagree I think O'Malley is a star. But what's a star is subjective. But I think if you're one of the most popular fighters in the UFC then you're a star, which I'd say O'Malley is.

Also the point of "As we already know ticket sells are abysmal" is pretty nonsensical. You blame O'Malley for that? I think it's obvious to anyone paying attention that the super high ticket prices are the biggest factor of the low ticket sales.

Despite his looks, he has almost no personality.

It's weird people say he has no personality. I think people who say this think personality means being loud and talking shit lol, or they're comparing him to McGregor who's a pretty big outlier.

But O'Malley absolutely has a personality. You don't get tattoo's all over your body and have colored hair and a warehouse like he has and a podcast like he has without having some personality. You don't need to have a ton of charisma to have a personality. I think some people think those two things are the same thing.

They got Sean at a bargain.

Not like he was a top pick in a Professional Sports Draft able to command HUGE upfront money with perks and benefits..

Seems that O'Malley has outperformed as a UFC investment -- defeating Champs and bringing KO excitement to small dude cage action.

The UFC want Sean to be a star with drawing power.. But he just doesn't have it.

Strange because if you search "UFC biggest active stars" O'Malley is on the list on every website. And he was the most googled bantamweight too. And the UFC seems to only stack cards with stars headlining and they've done that for O'Malley.

I think Sherdog is in denial about O'Malley being a star. If he's one of the most popular UFC fighters right now in the world I'm confused how you can be that but not be a star.

He didn't beat Yan imo, that was a bad decision.

I disagree, his personally is bland and he has zero charisma. Having all this shit he has doesn't validate nothing. Believe me I tried to watch his YouTube podcast, I can't.

It was close. When I watched it live I thought Suga had won but when I watched it back I scored it for Yan. Either way it showed that Sean belonged amongst the elites and he actually was pretty good.

He definitely did better than I thought he would do, just didn't do quite enough to get the win imo.
