Sean O'Malley is NOT a Star.

Adesanya, JJ 9M followers
Poatan 5M
Topuria already 5M
O Malley 4M
Holloway 4M
Garbrandt 3M

So O Malley theoretically is a draw. Not the best one by far.

Problem: A lot of his fans are kids. Yes they persuade their parents to buy the ppv.
But considering his hair and all, the conversion rate probably is bad.
That's why they are surprised about the low PPV

Holloway has as many followers.
But he is in the UFC for 12 years.
So a lot of his fans are adults now and earn more money nowadays -> more PPV

Jon Jones is in the UFC for 16 years. His fans could be even older. He brings the most money right now.
That's why Dana is such a fan of him.

Now you are being a bit cunty! His mid level charisma just does not attract a paying crowd.
And I have no idea how they thought it ever would? Old men trying to understand the future?

It would make my day if he said fuck it!
Shaved his hair off and just went on with being a great fighter instead.
He delivers good fights after all!

Just because some dumb shit got you laid once or twice when you where young, that does not mean you have to stick with it.
Shave off that dumb clown hair and go get some real fans instead! Unless the dumb hair earns you more social media $ then the UFC.
If so, just buy a wig and wear it between the fights so you don't annoy us!

O'Malley is a star in the Gen Z, gamer, social media crowd. But that doesn't necessarily translate to ppv sales. Most of those folks are too broke to buy a ppv, and too disinterested to care about mma.
And, unlike dinosaurs like myself, they're bright enough to figure out how to stream the PPVs for free.

Sean does have a great style, but you need more than pink hair and fighting ability to be a star.
I think the superstar era is behind us, it's not the fighters fault, the audience is just not the same.

Conor wouldn't become a superstar if he was starting his UFC career now .

He's definitely a star, but not a Conor McGregor mega star.

This is a good observation and why he can't expand into greater stardom. Certain aspects of his character don't translate well to the mainstream mma fanbase and I don't see him being able to overcome those. He's one or two loses from descending back to earth.

It's hard to sell $80 CDN PPV nowadays. There's fights every week to second week and if you wait two weeks you can watch it for free on YouTube or probably earlier of you subscribe to FightPass. I don't think PPV numbers are the only metric that necessarily reflect how large of a star you are. They can show the power amongst casual fans that otherwise don't pay attention.

Sean O'Malley is 61 kg.
People cares about big boys.
The more weigh you carry, the biggest star power you draw.
Pereira is their only superstar potential right now.

Agree with everything but even if rich they would never spend 75 bucks on a PPV for mma. They’d steal it though which is what most in that age bracket are doing . PPV is for boomers.

Far from being a star, he's actively disliked because of his weird cuckold wife sharing home life and persona. After all, who wants to watch a creepy dog looking skinny dude shuffling around the ring in hot pants?

Out of all the known fighters in the UFC I actively avoid the streak of p*ss.

UFC, TKO, Ari Gold - they should have the resources to be smart enough to find a way to monetize O'Malley's audience that is obviosly not the market for the classical PPV model.

Should.

Yeah Sean was their attempt to do "if you claim it, they will come" for promotion. A guy with 0.0 evidence of pull but the UFC told us all "superstar in the making" up to and including fixing fights in his favor.

As soon as he loses they'll toss that experiment to the side.

Yeah he clearly lost to Yan. That was complete BS.

Pinky is on borrowed time anyway  Too many killers from the East is coming for his goofy butt :)

I don't think that's necessarily the case, Dana hasn't publicly flaunted PPV numbers about anybody in years. They care a lot less about that in the ESPN era since they get a financial guarantee from them equivalent to 500K PPV buys.

PPVs in sport in general are dying and will be virtually gone soon. It's all about getting the TV deals now with how good and stable streams are these days.

It's genuinely less effort for me to put the UFC on a stream than it would be to go through the steps of purchasing it for PPV

I think in the MMA world, it's hard to say he's' not popular or a star. But I don't see him ever being a main stream superstar or anything.

Who gives a fuck?

see how brainwashed you greasy casuals are by the corrupt fuck Dana? Why should fans care about how much ppv sales? It ain't like you getting any money of that or any discount to watch. Biggest brainwashing job in all of sports. I swear most of you greasy casuals care more about ppv sales and the fake bullshit shit talking leading up to the fight than the actual fights. "Oh man conor threw a water bottle! that shit was so tight!".

The SEC, which is one college conference, got a 3 billion dollar tv deal for 10 years. Is the UFC even worth 3 billion? Let alone a 10 year tv deal? And this is just amateur leagues too. Not even the big bad NFL.

But but but the UFC is the biggest sport in the world, just after power slap.

Imagine being a fan of MMA and being so hell-bent about arguing that a genuinely talented and entertaining fighter "is NOT a star".

Yeah, Sean o' Malley is a pretty mellow dude. You could call him boring, even. And he's got that cuck thing going on, apparently, which pisses a lot of people off. For who knows what reason.

Enjoy his fights, people. Enjoy watching a great fighter. Spend less of your time being annoyed by his hair, his personality, his sexual preferences, and what have we.
