Sean O'Malley believes the eye poke at UFC 321 cost Tom Aspinall a lot.

Aspinall put his heavyweight title on the line against Ciryl Gane in the main event at UFC 321 last weekend in Abu Dhabi. The fight unfortunately ended in a no contest after a double eye poke from Gane late in the first round left Aspinall unable to continue.

O’Malley wonders what Aspinall’s career trajectory would have been with a potential win over Gane. While he was the interim champ, Aspinall was chasing a title unifier against Jon Jones, who retired without fighting him. However, Jones returned to the drug testing pool within weeks and has been rallying for a spot at the UFC White House card in June 2026. “Suga” believes Aspinall could have potentially fought Jones at the White House with a win over Gane at UFC 321. O’Malley believes the heavyweight division would have become more exciting as a whole had Aspinall won.

‘There’s So Much Tom Missed Out On’

“What could’ve been if Tom Aspinall goes out there and wins,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “What happens to his career after that? That’s a Jon Jones potential fight at the White House. There’s so much Tom missed out on because of that super unfortunate, sad [eye poke]… It would have made the heavyweight division so much more fun.”

Jones is never fighting Aspinall because he doesn't believe he can beat him.

He'd much rather fight guys he knows he can beat like Pereira.

It wasn't the eyepoke that broke Tom's nose.

Gane's an idiot for ruining the fight for himself with the eyepoke and Tom was right in getting a NC but I saw what I saw.

In case you didn't know, Tom is quite obviously not a fan of Trump and has clearly implied he does not want to fight anybody at the White House.

Also Mr White has said he cannot trust jones to headline any card, specifically NOT an important one like the white house one.

So thats two very strong reasons why Aspinall vs Jones ain't happening.

I hope Dana tells Jones publicly (again!) to STFU and go away and stay retired. He had his chance and he pussied out.

I disagree. There just isn’t any thing special about Aspinall. I remember when Francis was able to beat Stipe he was seen as super dominate even though he was also outclassed on the feet by Gane in his very next fight. Then he left and Palvowich started knocking people out and was being called the ‘’White Ngannou’’. Then shortly after Aspinall sparks him and is the next big thing. . I don’t get why fans are so impressed by a HW with KO power like most of them don't have it. Jones had no interest in ever fighting Aspinall because he is only known at the moment. In fact if he had been beaten by Gane his name would have faded from history because career wise he has little accomplishment outside of being a champion. Well, ok Jahmal Hill was a champ too lol. Doesn't hold weight without defenses. Why on earth would someone with a 20 year unbeaten streak grant such an opportunity to Aspinall, when marketing wise you can fight a 3x UFC champion with a much bigger following, record, and Aura. Aspinall was never getting that fight, and rightfully so. Alex is 38 now and his accomplishments speak for themselves. Aspinall better worry about Gane.
