I can't stand Chael but have always respected Arlovski and he said Tom quit too. I think it's the fact we've all seen fighters fight through what looked like much worse than that eyepoke and keep on fighting. That's one of the things we, as fans, admire about them.
We're all just jabbering anyway. Only Tom knows but in my opinion, his comments post fight and in that hospital video sound like someone trying to convince himself.

There is a really easy answer to this dilemma you seem to find yourself in. Jon Jones is scum, Tom is an untested champion who just had a bad look. He did not beat his girlfriend, cheat in high level competition, become a convicted felon on many levels, or back down from a championship fight while champion. You're trying to compare them on an equal playing field that doesn't exist in reality.

One got in the cage and got fouled, the other avoided getting in the cage and only did so under his best conditions, almost certainly geared up every time, and was the one usually doing the fouling.

If you follow this sport AT ALL and have seen NC's before, then calling a guy names for getting fouled and not continuing IS petty, while calling Jon every title he has earned repeatedly is just called telling facts. The fact you emphasized the champ part seems to imply you're in the former camp

He was fouled poked in both eyes and couldn't see. Totally crazy opinions about this fight. Tom wasn't losing the standup he got tapped on the nose and his nose was bleeding a little bit, that doesn't equal losing the fight.

Tom was landing the harder shots and Gane was really just running around. There is no way Tom was looking for an exit and thought perfect this eye poke lets me get out of here.

It wasn't Toms fault he was fouled he couldn't see out of either eye but people expect him to get in there and carry on to get knocked out, risk permanent injury or worse because if he doesn't continue blind he's a quitter.

Just because his eye wasn't hanging out it's socket or showing visible signs of massive trauma doesn't mean he could see and if he recovers or has recovered hours or days after the fight doesn't mean it wasn't severely hampering him in the 5 mins after it happened.

People should be pissed at Gane the stuff directed at Tom is severely misplaced.

If he was hurt badly and he couldn't see, he had the right to not fight. Ciryl did an illegal foul that caused this. He should be the one vilified and I was rooting for Gane.

Also The first thing that came to my mind. That guy was such a Quitter. Always turtled up because of some punches and had Lightning fast taps, where he when the ref stopped the fight Always acted Like he did not tap. What a Clown!

I haven't paid attention to Shillonen's opinion for some time now and he's rightly getting flamed but the trouble is this is the 2nd time Aspinall's been in a high profile main event and the fight has had to be stopped pretty quickly for an injury on his part. It's not for nothing but the fight is stopping and it just doesn't look great. Both times as well the other guy was more than holding his own.
