I've written about the Ernest and Goodwin story last summer and it still continues to be very actual among famous rus telegramers. Here is one of the popular takes on that case and the general incompetency situation overall:
As for Ernest and Goodwin, they were still alive, but the command said they weren't there. They were 200 meters from the chief of staff's house, but no one went to check if they were alive or not. And after this, everyone should at least shut up out of respect for the families of the dead and respect for themselves, and for those guys who are really fighting for the "smart guys" sitting in the rear, who will then shout about "their" Great Victory.
Here's what I'll say - victory will be brought, if it is a real victory, and not a deal, then it will be brought by these guys, like Ernest and Goodwin. Obstinate, with their own opinion, wrong somewhere, with arrogance, but generally strong-willed people. These are the ones who win, knowing that they are going to certain death - and they still go to it. There is no point in slandering their names - it is disgusting and shameless.
I am familiar with some of the materials of the case on the death of Ernest and Goodwin. I have no right to accuse or defend anyone before the investigation. But I will give you just a few facts:
1. The house where Goodwin and Ernest were located was 200 meters from the house of the chief of staff.
2. When they were hit, no one went to check. They said they did not know about the landing. Although see point 1.
3. They were still alive, but they were not saved. The command reported that they were not there. Although there was even video evidence.
4. The wives of these soldiers were also sent to the assault.
5. In this story, many people were threatened to keep quiet.
Why did this happen? Because very often people who came and come to positions, both military and civilian, have a "black" biography. Those who do not know say, here he is fighting, commanding, the rest refused, but he is a hero - he did not refuse. It is worth figuring out why he did not refuse - heroism or the opportunity to make money? Saving the fatherland or the desire of the authorities? Whose protégé is this commander? Who did he help to take out and who to dispossess, who to squeeze out? These people, who previously had nothing and were nothing - suddenly receive uncontrolled power. And here lies the problem. After all, they are the same people above them, they are obliged to those who promoted them, who protect them. Bound by one chain.
For many from the DPR and LPR, I will not reveal the secret that absolute swindlers and bandits were appointed to positions because some individuals really wanted to make money on the war and on the tragedy. Even now, here and there these lackeys crawl out, whom no one respects, who have a trail of betrayals and other crimes, and suddenly they are a regional party coordinator, or a local deputy or someone else.
In war, not everyone must necessarily be saints and positive heroes. This is not a script for a book - this is life. One person can combine valor and abuse of power, and defense of the homeland and murder of a prisoner. Good and evil are so mixed up there that they cannot be separated. But when people in positions are a solid clot of shit, without even a vein of adequacy, then they can lay down so many people for their own benefit and greed, for them there is no homeland, and they do not understand the word "honor", but only mimic for their own benefit.
P.S.: And, of course, this is a slap in the face to the entire legal system of the Russian Federation, when people who are participants in this whole story with Ernest and Goodvin are forced to hide, flee from other regions of Russia (since in the DPR and LPR they will easily kill you and no one will look for you) and ask for protection from the Far Eastern Republic and other law enforcement agencies.
