Rumored Rumor: Alex Pereira to Face Carlos Ulberg for Light Heavyweight Title on January 24

Total sense. If Alex wants to fight Jones or Aspinall/Gane, he needs to train like a MOFO.
He got zero damage vs Ank, so stay active.
not only that, but he has to wait for aspinall / gane to resolve.

against a legit number 1 guy right now there is zero reason for a single LHW to go ahead of ulburg... stay busy fight....? c'mon
What makes him legit, his win against a Reyes who's lost 5 of his last 8, or his debatable decision against a 42 year old Jan coming off of double shoulder surgery?

Thank fuck we didn't get a phony Jones fight. Good work, UFC.

So the favela tire shop worker and alcoholic vs. the foster child and social outcast. Who's got the bigger heart and will?

Interesting stuff.

Alex is the fucking man. He is the most active champion and does everything in his power to make for exciting fights. There is very little doubt your getting your moneys worth if Perreira is on the card…he’s cut from a different cloth. Other champs need to pay attention to how to make the fucking most of your last years because he is making HL clips and cashing high end checks 👏🏽
It'll be sad day when he retires.

Ulberg is a deserving challenger, his technique isn't the best but his athleticism is very good and his style is more on the orthodox kickboxing side

I'm just glad if he gets the title shot over a 3rd Jiri fight which the UFC broadcast was stupidly floating the idea of

Ulberg is the guy that looked shell shocked watching Pereria walk through Ank n destroy him in a minute? Almost rather it be Jiri but I get Ulberg being fresh ........ just think Jiri gives the better fight.

I want a trilogy fight with Ankalaev, but at least Ulberg is in the top 3

LOL, Jones isn't a champion brother. Maybe a HW bmf

Jones is as much the champ if not more than anyone else at HW right now.

No one else at HW has actually fought and won the actual HW belt. Tom got his in the mail and never completed any fights for it.

If that's true, Pereira is just such a boss. If anyone deserved a break it was him. I thought for sure he would take his time and wait for Jon Jones. But it's nice to see him stay active if he does this.

It could still happen. But this probably means that, at least for the time being, Dana is serious about denying Jon Jones.

Nothing confirmed yet. What do you think think about this explosive matchup?

I would add the caveat that there are two UFC events in January, and UFC 325 is January 31st (Feb 1st in Australia).

It's possible that the source got confused with "Pereira will fight Ulberg in January", and assumed it was UFC 324. Having Ulberg fight in Australia makes sense.

Alex is just flat out the better fighter by a significant margin. Aging and motivation are the questions.

Alex via KO

This was the right fight to make. I have noticed that ever since the UFC thoroughly embarrassed themselves with Jones that they are suddenly making a lot less idiotic decisions lately. Hopefully that doesn't wear off.

This is the fight that should happen and tbh I'd be fine if this was Alex's final fight at 205 before moving up. There's nothing left for him to do after Ulberg unless people really care to see Jiri and Ank vs Alex 3..

I've been pushing for Carlos to get the recognition to get the shot. Now that he is, yeah, that's probably an easy win for Alex. I guess another defense in January will keep his name hot and make people push the title loss out of their recent memory. Ya know, really try to re-pump up his name just in time for the White House fight with Jones.

Ulberg deserves it for sure, this should be a fun fight if it happens. he's just been putting in work and staying stoic while building up a win streak.
i think Alex will win and KO Ulberg somewhere around the 3rd or 4th round.

i dunno, i think a fight vs Murzakanov would be fun. although i would favor Alex to win that too.
