I don't know a whole lot about rugby, I'm learning. But this referee seems like a fucking dick.

Don't want to jinx anything...but England v Australia in the knockout stages.
We just gotta beat the Argies and the French.

On current form, you'd fancy England over Wales or Australia.

If England are going to win, they may well have to beat Australia, NZ and SA consecutively, which would be a massive ask.

Fun Fact: I went to high school with the TMO (Video referee) Ben Skeen. I can say without any hesitation he has never played a game of rugby, and possibly any other sport. On the other hand he has genius level intellect and knows more stats about sports than most coaches.

So I should look to recruit him for pub quiz?

merica are MUCH better than Canada at present.

Canada just haven't invested in their set up.

I believe after sevens got added to the Olympics, millions of $$$ were miraculously found and sent to USA rugby

He was the captain of the debate team so he would be excellent.

Meanwhile some of us would actually lace up the boots and smash each other.

I don't want a rules lawyer.. I just want someone what knows music for my pub quiz team....

Go Scotland.

These guys have been punting the ball down field a lot I've noticed. What's up with that? Fatigue? Or are they required to do it? Also, what's the deal with them deliberately punting it out of bounds?

Teams will kick for various reasons, but most commonly strategic. If they are having trouble getting over the gain line (ie. breaking tackles and making metres), then teams will commonly kick to gain territory rather than wasting energy running into a set defense over and over. The thinking being it's better for your opponent to have the ball deep in their half (and either having to kick it back to you for the same reason, sometimes resulting in kind of kicking duels for territory, or else play with the ball in a position of little threat). Sometimes this has to do with fatigue.

Teams deliberately kick it out of bounds if they win a penalty (because they can take the lineout from then where the ball goes out), or because they catch it inside the 22 (which means the ball doesn't have to bounce before it goes out). Outside the 22 metre line if you kick it straight into touch the other team gets the lineout where you kicked from, if it's inside the 22 thats the one exception where its where it goes out. Just a little quirk in the rules, to stop teams excessively kicking the ball really deep I suppose.
