Social Roseanne tweets outrageously racist comment about former Obama staffer Valerie Jarrett

1. What if you are spouting them anonymously on a karate forum and then get doxxed by CNN?
2. So basically, we let corporations decide what is acceptable discourse for anyone who wants a decent job?
3. I think there are some classes of high profile people who will always be likely to be called to account for dumb things they say. Celebrities, public officials, etc. I'm not talking about Kaepernick or Barr, but the average Joe.

1. That didn't happen here.

2. That's the way the world works. Might want to read your contract when you sign on.

3. Ok.

I don't know what socio-economic level you ascribe to but I don't know any professionals that share any personal opinions on Facebook. Everyone around me where I work and everyone around my brother where he works have social media pages that are completely devoid of opinion and only show family/vacation photos. Some of us have wives that share opinions, but they aren't employed at the level we are.

Literally nobody I know shares their opinions on Facebook, that sort of activity is reserved for people who are still dumb/deluded enough to think they have an important enough opinion that it simply has to be shared with the world.

Exactly my point. Allowing corporations and employers to fire people for political views has chilled public debate. I don't think it is dumb to share your political views publicly, though one's views may of course be dumb.

"Completely devoid of opinion" as you put it is to me a bad thing.

I assure you, every other business owner on the planet's first thoughts were "That's a damn shame for the people who worked around her"

If you ever are trusted with the responsibility of the livelihoods of people you care about, you might experience empathy one day. My inclination is your lack of it would also preclude anyone from ever trusting you with anything important.

It's Hollywood. The only reason half of those people were working was because of Roseanne. Where was your pat on the back for her, when she got those people work? Let me guess, it didn't even cross your mind, because your brain is hardwired for bitching when things go bad.

Quit acting like you give a fuck that the gaffers and grips will have to find work elsewhere. Nobody is buying your sanctimonious bullshit.

That is what happens 99% of the time. I do not believe that makes it any better. If you post a meme, or information you got from a meme, it's pretty safe to assume that it is fake.
The Fucking political meme trend is destroying this generation.

That sort of activity is also reserved for people with anonymous accounts on karate forums. :D

On the other side of the above, another guy had to go to racism sensitivity training because he walked into the break room, saw a black co-worker there and exclaimed, "You look just like a monkey eating that banana!"

Thing is, he didn't intend to be racist which is why he kept his job.

If he had left race entirely out of it and said instead "You look just like you're eating a dick," he probably would have had to go to sensitivity training, too. :)

Yeah, I honestly don't. It's a misperception based on playing every possible racial angle from one perspective and avoiding every possible racial angle from the other. We've got people in this thread claiming that being racist automatically puts one on the right. A person who sees the world in such Manichean terms will easily find a Roseanne Barr somewhere along the way to confirm their bias.

But there's lots of racism at the left margin as well. Consider this graphic from the SPLC:

607.jpeg

So of 370 groups defined as KKK groups or black separatist/hate groups, the numbers are in favor of right wing groups by 51-49%. So, pretty even, especially since the rise in the number of Klan groups is noted as being due to splintering. A right winger could spin this by saying in 2014 there were twice as many lft wing racist groups as right wing, while a left winger could spin it by saying that the number of right wing hate groups is increasing rapidly, inf act they more than doubled in one year.

Yet I think the best way to see it is that they are pretty even.
You're wrong. The SPLC is proven unreliable as a source for anything. You should be listening to the FBI and Homeland Security who have been calling for increased attention to the growing number of White Nationlist/White Supremacist groups and (attempted/successful) acts of violence.

"The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security in May warned that white supremacist groups had already carried out more attacks than any other domestic extremist group over the past 16 years and were likely to carry out more attacks over the next year, according to an intelligence bulletin obtained by Foreign Policy."

I believe it was @Madmick who not all that long ago exposed the SPLC for their shenanigans.

What about communism as an ideology? Killed 100 million people in the 20th century. And to make it easier, let's ignore various flavors of kinder, gentler communism. Should you be able to fire someone for being a Stalinist? Serious question, given that it was a matter of vigorous debate fifty years ago. I'd like to see how far views have shifted.

Does being a "Stalinist" have anything to do with completing their job?

Some of these questions are kinda silly to me, to be honest. Who is a Stalinist and what does that even look like in practice? I just don't understand the relevancy.

"Oh there's Joe over there by the water cooler, telling everyone he's a Stalinist again. He says he's gonna overthrow the company one day because of class inequality."

Telling you the truth that nobody will ever trust you with anything important got this sort of heated reaction out of you eh?

Roseanne's downfall has got you guys stark raving mad with it's timing being right after you adopted her to the Trump bandwagon.

Her opinions fit your demographic perfectly so I'm not sure what the problem is.

It's why it's objectionable and inflammatory.
I think black and white comedians do joke at each other - backstage and in poker games and whatnot. But take it public, the consequences are beyond your control.

I remember an early episode of Louie in which he and his comedy buddies were playing poker with a gay comic and were just relentlessly going full homophobe on him. I'm sure it was a snapshot of their real life.

When one of their fellow MAGAtards lets the mask slip down too far it really riles up the one's who have been disciplining themselves and not publicly crossing the race line.

Cool story, bro.

Funny how I haven't once said what happened to her was unfair. You stay ignorant though. It suits you and your ilk.

That's not correct. Many of us have stated that its a damn shame all of those people have to find new work because of this silly tweet. And this isn't the first time this kind of issue came up.

Anthony Jesselnik - who I think is fuckin' hilarious almost lost his show over a tweet.

Comedy Central threatened to cancel the show (The Jeselnik Offensive) after Jeselnik made a joke about the Boston Marathon bombing the day it happened on his Twitter account. After Jeselnik told Comedy Central he wouldn't delete it (once they threatened to fire only him), they then informed him that they would simply cancel the show and fire everyone who worked on the show to which Jeselnik then deleted the joke citing "what I could not do, what I cannot do, is walk up to my cameraman and say, 'Hey, buddy, no work for you on Monday; I had this sweet Tweet.'"

He joked about this on his Netflix special. Personally I didn't quite understand how they can fire him and keep the show alive (the first threat) but whatever...

I saw it. IIRC the comedian in question drew a clear distinction between the way one guy used it because he knew he didn't mean the jokes to be cruel while the other fellow did. He also reminded them all that every homosexual might've been subjected to real douchebag hatred in their lives.
