Fuck yeah he was and fuck yeah he is
Not only will he understand what its like to feel and think as an addict does, he displayed the mental fortitude to quit, improve his life and become the secretary of health.
If that's not inspiration for people struggling with addiction I don't know what is.
Kudos to this man.
believe there was a qualifier 'if they want to' pointed out earlier in this thread. As someone who's struggled with depression his whole life, and thinks drugs don't really help, I'm not against the idea of a government program that gets people outside in nature and work with their hands, and get paid for it for a limited time. But the logistics will be a headache. If you force people, you're going to incentivize people to not get treatment or lie about their condition. Also how does it work if someone taking meds already has a job? Plenty of people who take meds are functional.
Should be voluntary. Forcing anything sounds very un-American to me.
He is.Then he should be focusing on going after micro-plastics and PFAS in the environment.
SSRIs are not addictive in that they produces cravings. However, they do produce withdrawal symptoms and dependency. So the assertion isn’t entirely incorrect.RFK doesn't know how SSRIs work, dude....He thinks they are addictive (they are not) lol
This entire plan stems off a lie.
Are you asserting that SSRIs don’t create dependency and withdrawal symptoms? He said "These drugs" (referring to anti-depressents), in which case, I don't think you establish a causality that anti-depressants are addictive (in the clinical sense) and *promote* violent behavior.
There is a physiological dependency that occurs with prolonged use, but the same can be said for everything from blood pressure medication to antacids.
Establishing causality with respect to increases in violent behavior is also a strawman argument. While anti-depressant use has been linked to increased suicidal ideation and aggression in a relatively small number of cases, there is overwhelming evidence to suggest that anti-depressants radically reduces anti-social behaviors, compulsions etc. (which are linked to acts of violence).
No, just mostly. The issue is the misrepresentation of the potential problem, not whether or not there is one. There are side effects and withdrawal symptoms with all kinds of medications that nevertheless do more good than harm (with few if any alternative treatments) and to represent otherwise is fucking shitty.SSRIs are not addictive in that they produces cravings. I agree. He should have said “cause dependency” versus “are addictive”.No, just mostly. The issue is the misrepresentation of the potential problem, not whether or not there is one. He should get a punch in the face for suggesting he knows better than a doctor whether an individual should be on them or not.I agree. He should have said “cause dependency” versus “are addictive”.
I think to the average person though, they are interchangeable.
You'll be forced against your will, only if you like it. Sounds kinky and very American.believe there was a qualifier 'if they want to' pointed out earlier in this thread.
Who knows. You'll be forced against your will, only if you like it. Sounds kinky and very American.
Magic mushrooms does way more for depression than any pharmaceutical drug so being out in nature and picking mushrooms would be way better than taking drugs.Who knows.
Meanwhile I'm gonna go outside and play in the dirt.
What? You'll be forced against your will, only if you like it. Sounds kinky and very American.
I have to agree with this if it's done properly, numerous studies show being outdoors gardening and in nature improves mental health, as long as it's not used as cheap farm labour. So basically a rehabilitation center that emphasizes physical activity and outdoors over a depressing clinic. Sounds good to me.
Especially for depressed people who feel hopeless. Working with your hands, growing stuff makes people feel fulfilled.
Mother Jones makes it sound like they’ll be digging moats at the border lol
Not all camps are bad, lefties
Has he indicated that people should never be on SSRIs? Or that they are always ineffective? My view, and it is not outrageous, is that SSRIs are overprescribed and that diet, exercise and being outdoors can actually help a good portion of the population that is dependent on chemical interventions. Furthermore, that goes double for SSRIs in youth where a lifetime of dependence is going to happen when that prescription is made.He should get a punch in the face for suggesting he knows better than a doctor whether an individual should be on them or not.
Speaking for myself I've never had a serious side effect weaning off any prescribed medication. Most people don't.
Your last sentence is irrelevant. We're not talking about what the average person thinks except in as much as bullshit like this negatively affects them. He should be able to speak on these things accurately and clearly to hold his position. I'm not claiming you disagree with that; just wondering why you're making excuses for him with this comment, or so it appears to me.
I don't know enough about psychedelics, apart from what these delta9 and hhc gummies do when I eat them, but there is no feeling in the world that compares to accomplishing something with your bare hands and feeling exhausted from it. imoMagic mushrooms does way more for depression than any pharmaceutical drug so being out in nature and picking mushrooms would be way better than taking drugs.
