SSRIs are becoming more controversial. Using it for general anxiety/stress is putting a lot of people into a semi vegetable state and for actual serious mental issues (like bipolar, depression, or any other chemical imbalance) it actually makes those issues worst because it's now putting your brain on 2 different wavelengths.

Most doctors now a days are scared of being sued so if someone comes in saying they have anxiety or are stressed they just write up a prescription for some low dose SSRI

My last job involved clients doing a small health intake sheet and I swear close to half the women ages 20-45 listed that they were on some sort of anti-anxiety drug (prozac, lexapro, celexa, luvox). Almost half, that's pathetic !

As someone who's struggled with depression his whole life, and thinks drugs don't really help, I'm not against the idea of a government program that gets people outside in nature and work with their hands, and get paid for it for a limited time. But the logistics will be a headache. If you force people, you're going to incentivize people to not get treatment or lie about their condition. Also how does it work if someone taking meds already has a job? Plenty of people who take meds are functional.
Should be voluntary. Forcing anything sounds very un-American to me.

People love to have this almost moral high ground when it comes to anti-depressants, almost like others are "taking the easy way out" with meds, and that's so fucking idiotic and ridiculous lol. It's literally brain chemistry. You live your whole life unhappy no matter what you do, so you take meds, and it helps a tiny bit. That's it.

Obviously there are problems with doctors prescribing them too much to kids, but people talking about them being "addictive"...it's fucking with your brain, of course you can't just take and stop something like that without problems. It's almost like some of you think people are getting high or fucked up from anti-depressants, and that's beyond insane and not the case at all.

Weird story connected to this: when I was a kid in the 70's, the American cop shows were pretty gritty when it came to drugs--they had Starsky get hooked on heroin (involuntarily) in Starsky & Hutch and things like that. And then on top of that, there were a lot of high-profile celebrity overdose deaths.

Consequently, as a teenager, I'd already resolved to never do pills (recreationally) or needles.
