Media Reyes trains like a mad man in order to reclaim the title

His fight with Jones isn't as controversial if you take away the shock of how well Reyes did in rounds 1&2...

Round 3 is the turning point round...Reyes started ok but around half way through hit a fatigue wall he could not recover from for the next 2.5 rounds and thats why he lost...

It could of been scored a draw round and thus a draw fight and its pretty much damn near the middle of the third round when Reyes falls off the cliff cardio wise..but from that point on Jones took over .

If your gunna leave a close round against a long reigning champion up in the air .. chances are its gunna go to champion..

If you wanna be the man you gotta beat the man...shutting down cardio wise half way through a round isnt beating the man especially when he starts becoming more aggressive as you tire

As a challenge everyone should try watching the fight and scoring the fight from the 3rd round on ward and see who they give it to as a 3 round fight...ive seen it as 30-27 Jones...but it was close

Would like to see Reyes with someone without KO power. He might be pretty good just his chin is cracked. The guys who beat him only had to land the right sequence of punches early on. I want to see a guy drag Reyes to the deep end to beat him.

I thought the same thing before the Spann fight: "Even if his chin is glass now, he should still have his other attributes & skills and that'll be enough!"

But nah. He's well and truly done at the high level IMO. It wasn't just his chin failing him against Ryan; it wasn't like he just got caught. He looked utterly "flat" -- like he was moving in molasses out there. Every movement he made was labored and stiff when before his footwork and athleticism were some of the hallmarks of his game. He was throwing naked, telegraphed kicks with no set-up and keeping his head planted on the center line. It was almost like watching Liddell at the time he retired versus back in his prime.

I'm sure there are guys he can still beat, but they are relatively few and far between. Unfortunately one of the ones who was a good match-up for him inside the rankings just left the division in Paul Craig. He legitimately could have looked very good in that spot. I've been wanting to see him fight Smith for a while, though I think Anthony has more tread left on the tire comparatively... which is insane to say.

I'd like to see them give him a soft match-up as much as the next guy, but below him in the rankings it looks like this:
  • Rountree booked against Daukaus
  • Alonzo Menifield
  • Jacoby booked against Nzechukwu
I could make a case for him against a couple of these five guys but I dunno that I'd favor him against any of them.

Fair point.

I mean like yes I do think he should have been giving the nod over jones but Reyes is currently one of the worst fighters right now

Reyes did well against Jones because of the style matchup, now he looks like a terrible fighter for the same reason.

Reyes may or may not have a weak chin but his defense is weak, Jones didn't have the power to take adv of that, Spann, Jiri and Jan did. Reyes is hard to takedown, hard to control and he strikes reckless, he was able to force Jones into a firefight but Jones had no fire to fight back with.

Reyes can't be as dominant a champion as Jones or a dominant champion at all but he could become champ for a short time with the right matchups.

Had reyes won all of his fights after the lost to jones he would have had a better argument that he beat jon and that he's the best who knows jon probably would come back to light heavyweight but none of that happen he lost badly.

He had a very close fight with Jones. Reyes lost the same way Hendricks lost to GSP, and Tibau lost to Khabib. That’s how toss up fights go.
Not a toss up when ufc favors the betting favorites

Reyes and Hendricks lost because they took their foots of the gas in the championship rounds thinking they already had enough rounds won to win the decision at least 48-47 regardless. Nobody disputes those later rounds for Jones and GSP. People who think there was a robbery just think Jones/GSP didn't win an earlier round(s) so only won ~2 rounds and therefore shouldn't have gotten the decision. Judges thought they did though so they in fact had the majority of rounds due to taking the in fact key champ rounds.

Tibau/Khabib is nothing like that. Plenty of people think Tibau won all 3 rounds or at least the 2/3 needed for the 29-28 decision. He never stopped, he kept up his game plan the whole fight and shut down Khabib's. There was no clear Khabib rounds that he inarguably should've won, let alone all 3 like the judges gave him. The whole fight is at best a toss up.

Reyes and Hendricks lost because of their own fight IQ problems. Tibau lost entirely because of the judging.
I can agree with that. Jones Reyes and gsp Hendricks had very close rounds in their fights. Tibau had next to nothing occur in that fight so the rounds were definitely close as well. Is normal in mma.

I’d love to see him come back and knock some mofos out

That Jiri fight ruined him. The impact of the elbow then when he face plants his neck is at such an awkward position when he slams into the mat. All that force with nowhere to go but through his skull/neck/spine. His CNS prob will never recover in his career window.

That brain sheering power left him unfamiliar with the man he’s a shell of
