Even as a Jon stan, I’m finding the number of threads like this surprising. I truly thought everyone had turned on Jon.

People like to hop on bandwagons here. I'm guessing the difference is that even before the eye poke, there was no point in the fight that anyone could look at Aspinall and say he was doing well, or even hanging with Gane. He got hit early and kept getting tagged, and couldn't finish the one takedown he attempted.

Put another way, there have been Aspinall doubters all along (look at my post history to find one of them), but now there's nothing to be said in his defense, so you don't hear the bandwagon side.

I've seen Jon persevere through many tough situations, from Vitor having his arm completely locked up and popping his elbow, to Gustafson having him battered and nearly beat, to breaking his toe in half against Sonnen, to dropping the first 2 rounds to Reyes... and he never once looked for a way out or folded, he managed to tough it out and turn it around every single time.

I've seen Tom face adversity just once, and he immediately took the first chance he could to bitch out.

This dropped his stock worse than any knockout or decision loss would have imo.

Ive always thought all the "HW GOAT" "like nothing we've ever seen" type talk around Aspinall has been ridiculously premature and baseless, but he didnt need to be that for Jon to not want any part of him. Jon, as a 38 year old career LHW who barely fights anymore and is most likely well past his best, simply saw a prime big athletic HW with fast heavy hands, a grappling background and very little tape to study on him, and decided there were too many question marks and the risk wasnt worth it. I 100% believe he didnt want to test himself against Ngannou either, and may well have avoided Pavlovich if he had come out on top in the Tom fight. The theme being they're all one hitter quitter punchers who might not be easy to wrestlefuck. Its not all based on the notion that Tom is some never before seen monster.
