Rewatch Rewatched Khamzat vs Usman

Fight wasn’t even particularly close. Usman didn’t die but he was nowhere near winning.
R1 10-8 Borz
R2 10-9 Usman
R3 10-9 Borz

It was a valuable learning lesson from Khamzat and I’m sure his fight IQ will improve from that. It was pretty bizarre he only chose to shoot in the last 30 seconds of round 2, after having a great round 1. I get that he wanted to recover a bit, but he didn’t even look particularly tired

People think Khamzat is gassing because he isn't sprinting like Usain Bolt out there like he does in the 1st round. Realistically the pace he still keeps after the 1st round, albeit much slower than how he started, is still a very high pace for anyone to deal with.
I don’t think his round 2 and 3 would be considered high, more like a normal pace. But I agree with the part about sprinting in the first round just isn’t possible for a whole fight. And people are stupid to think he’s gassing when really he’s just conserving energy because he starts round 1 at the highest pace possible.

No, both fights with Leon removed his "best TDD" stat.

Khamzat fans just love to pretend that it wasn't an out of prime Usman on super short notice - far from the best version of Usman - that Khamzat was in there with.
No,, He was still ranked first before the Chimaev fight.
Edwards lowered his 100% TDD to like 97%.
Chimaev removed him from the list completely.

I checked this before the fight.

But yeah, I agree that wasn't the best Usman. That's obvious.

True, I got overzealous defending The Chimster there I'll admit it
Would love to see someone actually take chinaev there like how burns did. A Strickland or DDP fight would be a banger. I think Rob will force him to work too, unless somehow he got even less durable and gets put out early

Rob is chinny and Kham can crack. Leaning towards that but Rob can turn it around if Kham just razzles

True.
But I disagree with the second statement.
Jose Aldo is the lone king of TDD. His elite TDD spans over 2 weight classes and was the most tested in terms of that. Even when past prime, a world class wrestler like Merab couldn't take him down once.
GSP is unquestionably ahead of Usman in that regard. He is the greatest WW of all-time in that specific stat, regardless of percentages.

Not sure there was a myth to be busted. I don't remember a lot (a large population) of sherdoggers saying it was a robbery or that Chimaev's gas tank was obviously empty at the start of round 3.

I remember many sherdoggers concluding there wasn't a lot of new information to draw from the results because Usman only had a week or 2 notice, Usman had his first UFC fight at MW after an entire career at WW, and fight fans STILL had not seen Chimaev accept a 5 round fight against a legit, ranked MW.

I never said Usman was ahead of GSP. You must've read my post wrong or something.

I was talking about Aldo being the TDD GOAT.
I agree about GSP being better than Usman in TDD. He was way more tested.

I think Georges was just as proven as Aldo and feel Georges actually faced more solid wrestlers than Aldo.

83% vs 91%. They're pretty close IMO

Prime Mendes was probably the best wrestler in the UFC FW division and he only took Aldo down once out of 8 attempts.
Merab was 0 out of 16 attempts.
Having 90% or over across 2 divisions, despite being past prime is awesome.

Definitely have GSP and Jones up there, just not on #1 place.

Didn't Anderson Silva have the best striking in UFC history and then get TKO'd by Uriah Hall?

Usman is 37 with shot knees, it doesn't matter how good he was - father time is (as far as I'm aware) entirely undefeated.

Mayweather seems to be unbeaten by father time, but he insists on risking it.

I guess Usman could've fight more urgency and pressed the action more if his gas tank was that superior /shrug

yeah but it is worth mentioning he didn't move up he moved down, So If FW's were having a hard time getting him down, BW's never stood a chance.

I think the judges got this one right. What is alarming for Khamzat fans is that Usman is a career Welterweight and clearly past his prime and won the 3rd (final round) on 2 of the 3 judges scorecards.

It didnt happen here. I just call it how i saw it. He didnt look gassed.
He is very clearly not the same fighter in round 2 and onwards as he is still in round 1. His pace is completely different. If you're bothered by the word gassed then find something else to call it but don't pretend it isn't there.

I really don't understand your sentiment. So a fighter is supposed to look fresher in round 2? What....
He looked fresh, mobile and energized enough in round 2; moved well, his pace was good, although he didn't rush Usman headon. There was no gassing. Apply your advice to your own device?
