Reasons to like DDP's chances against izzy.

I expect Izzy to smoke him tbh. As much as I don't like Izzy's BS yesterday, chances are he knocks him out with that weird sloppy striking. It's not easy to get hold of Izzy as his footwork is very good.

Izzy gonna knock him out. Dude looks tailor made to eat an Izzy country punch and go night night. Big hulking plodding Frankenstein isn't going to lay a finger on Izzy.
Izzy is just too fast man. He's also the best counter puncher in the game.

DDP suprised me last night but I still don't like his chances vs Izzy at all.
here is my problem ...Izzy has already fought a guy like DDP in Costa....this fight is going to be like shooting fish in a barrel for Izzy and I seriously dislike Izzy ALOT!
His style is tailor made for Izzy. I don't see it. I don't think Izzy is going to fight emotional no matter what cringe shit happens between them.
Yeah, sure, why not... You bet on DDP and show to us your bet slip ok? While I'll bet on Adesanya without a doubt. I'm waiting.

His chances are not even 0, are like -1.

Just saying guys......

They’re not that wrong, this fight was old Lion vs young Lion, that is all. DDP was getting outlander by a lot, but the enormous pressure did in izzy. He can’t evade as well, can’t absorb as much either. DDP is a force for sure, his switch stances are confusing, and hes got the burning desire to win.

I mean, my post that they all disagreed with was obviously more accurate: DDP did have the ablity to kick with izzy, his size and reach and ability to switch stances did give izzy some fits, and he DID have a big grappling advantage.

It's all in good fun though.

Yep, i did say that it is like izzy v costa in another thread but that ddp would probably win. Just a bit better than costa, but he wants it more, he’s willing to eat some to give some, and not totally war torn. He’s a fun champ to have around, no complaints.

We need to start looking at this guy as a serious threat to the title, so I'll start by mentioning some of his attributes that I think make him a threat to izzy:
  • He is one of the biggest Middleweights at 6'1 with 76 inch reach, and according to himself he weighs 210 lbs on fight night (sometimes more). Both guys that izzy lost to were able to match izzy's length to some degree and make their size felt in the octagon. DDP is taller, longer and just bigger than the vast majority of middle weights that izzy has been fighting, so izzy might not be as safe at range as he typically is.
  • He has a significant grappling advantage. I don't think there is much debate here. If he gets on top of izzy, he'll be a big problem.
  • He is a switch stance fighter. Izzy relies on leg kicks as a large part of his game, but it takes more time to break down switch stance fighters with leg kicks than it does for fighters who spend the majority of their time in one stance.
  • He throws a good amount of low kicks himself. He is no Pereira, but he does attack the legs and most people don't do that to izzy.
  • Big power
  • Very good chin.

How do you guys think they match up?
This aged real well.

Good job OP.

The interesting thing about DDP is that if you remove any one of those attributes he would barely be top 10.

It's pretty impressive that he was able to jigsaw all that shit together to be such a beast.

At the same time I kinda see him as the MW version of Forrest Griffin lol

I chose DDP winning not so much because of his skills. (And he is highly skilled) but because I believe Izzy has lost a step or two. He's had a ton of fights in his career. Not just MMa but kickboxing. And as Indiana Jones said it ain't the years it's the miles!! Also Izzy has a tendency to be passive in some of his fights. Something where against guys like Strickland or ddp he doesn't fair to well against. He had a great round 3 against ddp and had more rounds looked like round 3 vs ddp izzy would have won but ddp is so awkward it's kinda hard to get a rhythm against the guy. Just when you think he's tired or done, ddp comes from behind (literally) to win the fight.

I would say he's much better than Forrest ever was. DDP is truly the prototype MMA fighter. Jack of all trades master of none. But what makes him so different despite his awkwardness. Is his heart and his grit. That is a 10 out of 10 for me. No matter how beat up he gets, no matter how tired he gets. He keeps moving forward. He keeps trying to win the fight. That's insane to me. You can't break his will as long as he has some air in his lungs!!! Even if he doesn't. That's insane to me. Someone tell me I'm wrong or I'm lying.

No version of DDP ever beats the Rampage or Shogun Forrest beat. dude beat the unanimously ranked #1 and #2 LHW in the world back to back and people still won't give him his flowers for it. DDP got gifted the title against Strictland (don't worry i was happy Sean lost) and looked really pedestrian in his win over Izzy. That fight was more about how much Izzy has slowed down and not how good DDP is. I really want to see how the Strictland rematch goes so DDP can shut me up. DDP feels like Robbie as champ. Underdog champ we love to root for. Heavy UD against Rory. Should've lost the Hendrick's rematch. participated in the biggest title fight robbery in ufc history against Condit. and we all still love him. Then as soon as he becomes the favorite he gets KTFO

Great post.

I didn't know who was going to win, but I was sure that there was a high chance Izzy was going to exploit DDPs openings on the counter similar to the way he got Rob during one of his blitzes in their first fight. DDP mixed it up brilliantly and showed his toughness.

That is super impressive! And one of those things that if you take away he'd start losing... I think the most important and tenuous one is his chin

Costa's nothing like DDP other than being big and strong. Costa doesn't switch stances, doesn't grapple and is almost no threat to finish fights on the ground, he doesn't clinch fight well either.

I thought he would win, but I didn't bet the house. I still thought there's a chance Izzy could come in looking sharp and catch him on some sloppy forward movement. I think we have to look at DDP as a very smart fighter. His timing isn't luck. He understands the tools he has, he's thought about them, he's planned for his opponent, and consequently he's able to time what his opponent is doing. It makes us question his opponent, but really what we're seeing is a smart fighter who sticks to a plan and uses every tool he has at his disposable to win.

costa also doesnt have ddp level power, hes a accumulation type of striker

Izzy looked better than he has in years before he got finished. You sound like a hater in this post. The Strickland DDP fight was very close and a slight majority had DDP winning. Strickland whining like a little bitch somehow warped peoples minds into thinking it was a robbery when more kf the mediascorecardshad DDP winning. DDP landed more strikes in round 2 and did more damage in rounds 3 and 4 while having only like 2 or 3 strikes less in those rounds.
