First off this post is coming from a nut hugger that thinks conor is currently one of the best P4P fighters. I love him. With that being said, I'm trying to find the real reason he refuses to defend. Especially against a guy like Aldo he beat already? If I were him, I already know I beat him, I'll just do it again. I also killed Eddie alverez with ease so why not just announce the date you will defend the LW belt? Is he afraid to lose a belt? Or has he become so rich that he just doesnt care to play the UFC game that champs have to defend? I honestly think it's the money. His net worth is more than any MMA fighter including Ronda, so now's he's at the point where he wants to keep making more. The mayweather fight is a prime example.

But in fairness can see the superb performances he has put on vs Aldo and Alverez as well as others. Mind games, timing, size / reach advantage, and precise shots makes him a force to be reckoned with, a very good fighter who I am sure I time will be regarded as a great (with some title defences)

As to why no defences as of yet.

The hype machine / the brand. Losing to Nate hurt his momentum mucho, and respect for coming back the way he did.

If he looses a title, The mystique, the aura diminishes, it becomes harder to call the shots with the UFC

And ultimately. His pay suffers...

I think he's playing the game smart. Looking more for moneyhab legacy, although that is to a consideration for him.

BUT in order to risk the hype machine. The rewards gotta be worth it.

Conor is probably the biggest megalomaniac in the sport which is also remarkable because of how scrawny he is. But anyway, being the champ and having a belt is vital to his shtick. Losing to Nate the first time didn't really hurt him that badly because he was still a champion. I think losing a belt would be the worst thing that could happen to Conor mentally and he knows that too.

Luckily he's in a position to where he can control way more of his career than your average guy. Him being a champion is good for him and it's good for his employers.

Conor is mentally and physically quicker than Aldo, and he's much more precise with his shots. Jose didn't even know what happened to him. Conor read his movement and shut his lights off. It's the same combination Aldo has used on inferior opponents. It failed him when he finally found someone better than him.

As a Nutthugger TS... you should recognize that he waz scheduled for a LW title defense before he saved the 196 card by taking a late replacement. He lost & so he had to get it back by re-running the same fight but with full camps for both. His win at 202 put him back where he started.... to be in-line for a title fight at LW. He then got his title fight at LW & now he'z free to defend whichever belt he choosez.

At no time did he duck a title defense. He waz simply playing the cardz he waz dealt.

That is not the correct counter point, and anyone who cites it is being lazy or doesn't really watch this sport.

Aldo has used that same entry in several other fights. It is not some "out of character" technique that he used. He used it because he has historically been faster than his opponents and it opens up other combinations. Aldo's entire game is based on being faster and more explosive than his opponents. Conor simply takes that away from him and turns it 180 degrees against him. Aldo has to engage Conor, and we have seen first hand how dangerous that is.

It was completely out of character for Cain to just stand in JR's striking range. Everyone knew that if he did that again he would lose again. But if he went back to doing exactly what he was know for, smothering his opponents, he could win.

I never believed that Matt Serra was better than GSP. I predicted on several occasions that Cain would defeat JDS in the rematch. i don't just take wins at face value. Conor is better than Jose Aldo. It's just how it is and citing other fights that have nothing fundamentally in common with this one doesn't change that.

Aldo has fough many smarter fights then the one against conor, you clearly havnt watched his decade long run if you think other wise. Watch the last frankie fight even to look at the difference in movement. Anyway people learn from loses thats what makes re matches interesting. Aldo gave one to the 2 toughest guys at 145. I'm not a fan of Conor McGregor. The lack of defending belts is not a big issue right now. He was supposed to rematch Jose Aldo but Aldo turned down the fight because it was short notice (which is understandable). Then he fought Alvarez and took his belt. Now he wants to take a break and wait until after he becomes a father to compete again. No big deal. I personally hope his next fight is with Khabib and he doesn't take the 10 month lay off. I'm not a fan of McGregor's personality but he is an exciting fighter so I will watch him fight. But right now no title defenses isn't a big deal. I expect him to defend his Lightweight belt in his next fight.
