We watched Black Klansman earlier. It was pretty good. There were some nice jokes and it was a good story. My problem with it was the portrayal of the KKK guys. Hollywood has this really bad habit of portraying the KKK as backwards idiots which it needs to stop doing because all that does is provide a comfort blanket for white liberals - Sure they're bad, but they're not that bad! - I found it weird that on one hand there was a horrible graphic description of a lynching which highlighted how evil these fuckers really are. Meanwhile the film was portraying the KKK guys as gullible drunks - Look at those racists aren't they stupid? Look how dumb they are. It's a good thing we're not like them - Comfort blanket. Still, it was a good film. 7/10

Teen Wolf (1985)

I had not seen this move since childhood. It is still an extremely fun movie with a relevant message about being yourself. Loved hearing those 80's tunes I have not heard in years too.

9/10 - "A"

That’s funny, I just rewatched this one for the first time in many years too. It was good nostalgia, but I didn’t think it held up too well. Kinda crappy really.

Been on a werewolf kick this for this year’s Halloween festivities. So watched this one, skipping part two (lol), and gonna watch the Benecio Del Toro one next. Also rewatched Monster Squad for the first time since childhood. Fun nostalgia, but again doesn’t hold up. Some good performances, and a lot of bad dialogue.

This is one of the 7,491 reasons why I absolutely love The Pianist. They not only show you a realistic nazi instead of a cartoon, and even though he is on Team Bad Guy, they don’t just make it simple & dumbed down like that, they make you actually feel for the guy’s situation, while still depicting the horror. It’s a far more adult, honest way to address these kinds of things.

Halloween -- 6.5/10. Just felt off and and scattered as a film.

And the ending . . .
the daughter holding the knife means she'll become the next kiler?

Err, no. Why would she?

If anything it suggests shes the new young Laurie Strode.

But imo thats a nonstarter cos her character just wasnt memorable or important, the film still belonged to Laurie.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. That is how shit went down in the 80's. In fact, I think it's probably Michael J. Fox's best cinematic work outside of the Back to the Future trilogy.

Watched "A Quiet Place" last night.

It seems that loads of folks loved it but it felt too short to us.

Also a couple of plotholes/ really stupid things they did - at the start when the youngest child walks behind everyone- really ? Surely you put the kids in the middle and parents bookending the line ?

How did the government not figure out how to kill the creatures?

Decent watch though 6/10.

Still think we should have watched deadpool 2 though...

I used to love this movie when I was a kid, decided to revisit because I knew it would contain the lulz.

Didn't disappoint was laughing my ass off all the way through, the badass Charlton Heston looking dude who kills the ninjas with a shotgun is awesome.

The blonde chick is hot in that 80's porn kinda way.

It will be a while before I decide to watch this again but no doubt it's an awesome drunk movie.

7.5/10

Mid90s

8/10. Pretty much nailed life in the 90s. BMX, cds, skateboards, malt liquor, hook ups at parties.

Watched Dirty Dancing with the wife last night. We had boxed up all of our DVDs about a year ago and I went rummaging through them last night because the Mrs wanted to watch You’ve Got Mail, which apparently she doesn’t actually own so we grabbed Dirty Dancing instead. 98% of the time we end up watching a movie I pick so I figured we were well past due to watch a chick flick picked by her.

This was my first time seeing it. All these years I assumed the movie was about dancing but it’s actually about abortion.

1. The protagonist learns to dance to fill in for a chick that needs to go for a back alley abortion (movie takes place 10 years before Roe v Wade).

2. I knew the movie featured a Dad angry at his daughter but I always assumed it was over premarital sex or just hanging out with a delinquent guy. Turns out the protagonist’s Dad was a Doctor and he was pissed at her for lying to him and tricking him into giving her money to pay for some other chick’s abortion.

3. I assumed the Dad would be mad at Patrick Swayze because he was fucking his daughter and of a low social standing and a bad influence. In fact the Dad was mad at him because he thought he knocked the other chick up and sent her for the coat hanger abortion in the first place.

4. As soon as the Dad realizes that Patrick Swayze wasn’t the father of the aborted fetus he’s no longer upset about him fucking his daughter.

So in short the dancing was just a pretext to tell a story about the stigma surrounding abortions.

7/10

Jonny English! Fun movie. 7.6/10

ENEMY

Spoiler alert: It's heterosexual FIGHT CLUB told from Tyler's perspective. THE MACHINIST also comes pretty close, except it's blue and this one's yellow.

I liked it a lot.

a quiet place 7/10

solid film which kept my interest from beginning to end. Lots of plotholes/ questions though...

why was there only 3 aliens in this one area? What was going on with rest of world? Surely more areas would have figured out how to beat them. I mean blind aliens that rely on sound? Seems like someone somewhere smart would have figured out using high soundwaves to beat them

as someone mentioned above, the toddler walking well behind the parents at the beginning seemed very stupid

the father and son go fishing at the river and talk by the waterfall even yelling out loud saying how the sound of the water drowns out their own noise so they are safe. Uhm...so why not set up shot by the river permanently?

how did they have electricity? Possible theres an easy explanation for this but im curious what it is

the only wtf moment ill address is not living by the waterfall. Id say everyone speaks about this, but its the most clear to me.

Was there already a building there? And if there was, how exactly close to you have to be? They were literally within 10 feet of the water when speaking and under a waterfall when yelling. Want to chance making all the noise it requires to build a livable house?

The Meg (2018)
As a cryptozoology lover, I thought this would hit the spot. Giant, rediscovered prehistoric great white goes apeshit and Statham steps up to the plate - granted, I wasn't expecting award-winning performances, a gripping storyline or anything with shelf-life. But I did expect awesome action, great CGI and a riveting ride.

It was absolutely fucking shocking. It felt like a straight to TV Sci-Fi channel movie special. The special effects were awful; the acting was 10 x worse than I imagine it could be (Statham in particular, Christ - he was tragic); the action was a complete letdown.

2/10

The First Purge - 7.5/10

Guy who played the head drug dealer would make an excellent action star. Lex Scott Davis is a 10!!!!!!!

If you liked the other Purge movies you'll like this one also. Story wasnt bland or far fetched considering the source material. All the actors put in a good performances that elevated it above B level movie status.

Mother: this is seriously one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I was seriously surprised to read that it was directed by Aronofsky after I watched it, he used to make good stuff.

I ranked it a little higher but had a similar reaction.

I don't think moving to the waterfall was viable. There are obviously limitations to how much the noise of the waterfall can cloak the noise of their voices (let alone the noise of building a new home) as @TrueBias alluded to.

Hereditary 7/10

Nice suspense but the payoff wasn't very good. Tried just a little too hard.

I liked it a lot.

It was a solid, very intriguing beginning of a movie, that suddenly just cut off & was like, ok guys, uh, that’s the movie. Here’s a spider, uh... the end. Pissed me off

I laughed out loud when the ugly little girl pulled out a candy bar and started eating it at the funeral. That movie wss terrible
