R.I.P. CM Punk's MMA career

It's possible. But from what I hear he was getting rag-dolled in staged exhibitions. Couldn't have given him much confidence for an actual fight.

When guys going light on you are kicking your ass, it's not hard to imagine what's going to happen in an actual contest.

Isn't there a program out there for people like him, this 'Wimp 2 Warrior' phenomenon happening right now lol, who started that by the way? I'm just seeing it heaps now, come join 'Wimp 2 Warrior', and we'll have you trained and ready for a fight in 6 weeks lol.

A lot of the people who step into the cage, feel like they have atleast a chance to win. But in CM Punk's case, he must've known that he was going to get his ass kicked. Yet he still did it. Twice.

You could consider that to be impressive on some level, though mostly just insanely stupid.

I think he knew what he was getting into . He lost every fight they set up for him at the gym in preparation for his first fight. Stupid in the sense that he definitely took some brain damage and fucked his body up some more but his body was already jacked and he had plenty of money in the bank. He went for it. Pretty sure he was aware in the moment. Stuck to his commitment though which is the part I respect because backing out would have been worse

He looked so unathletic, how can he be a top wrestler in WWE? Does he move like an elderly there too?

years of brainwashing as a wwe star made him believe he's a genius its all in the mind he's gonna believe conceive achieve a ufc title

Good on the guy for trying. I honestly dont think he deserved to be on this stage, but he brought in new fans that hopefully stayed as fans, so he at least did something for the sport.

Cm punk never played a real sport in his entire life until he was damn near 40. He never played high school football, didnt wrestle in college, none of that. He went straight to drama class with prowrestling. Hence why his body never resembled an athlete.

This is it! Thx. Punk is like a nerd wwe fan who made it without any sports talent.

I watch regional wrestling from time to time and you could put most of these guys into the cage with Brooks. They would beat him all down.

Punk is a lot worse than the worst participants of the first UFCs. That is an achievement for the ages :D

Bye bye Chick Magnet Punk.

What a stupid fucking name.

naaahh ....much much worse for the typical sherdogger...there are levels to this game and CM Punk is not at the bottom of the totem pole no matter how shitty he looks

Yeah.. But there are gonna be guys on here that can actually fight.

One thing that Punk could NOT do was fight. It was like he had read about how to in a book.

Fuck what he did in WWE, that was fight choreography. It was literally like putting Silvester Stallone in a pair of 4oz and expecting him to give Randy Couture a run for his money...

I'll say it again. After 3 years at Rufus sports with some of the worlds best fighters. He couldn't throw a punch.

Run back the fight against Jackson and tell me that dude can fight. Not saying the average typical keyboard warrior can beat him.... But there are definitely a few here that could EASILY.

Absolutely wrong. He thought the EXACT opposite. Right from the first announcement with Rogan.
Years of make believe and 'being the best in the world' had went to his head. He saw Brock had had success and even though he had no real background as a leap up like Brock had with college wrestling, he still thought he'd be able to come in and make an impact. No fucking way he thought he'd lose.
Come on... Do you think a person can be that delusional. This is the question that boggles my mind. Did he know how bad he was or did he brainwash himself into believeing against all odds? He f..g sucked big time...

Pretty sure he was that delusional and certainly believed he was going to be successful when he announced it to Joe. Thats what happens when you have nobody in your life willing to give you some hard truths. Its possible that he realised he was in over his head when he started training, he did afterall stall his initial bout which happened something like a year later than expected. I suspect he might have realised he made a big mistake but felt not going through with it would have been even more embarrassing so just hoped that extra time might just be enough to have a shot of beating some scrub.

He should have just faked some injury so he could save face and weasel out of going though with his debut that way.

You underestimate the potential levels of delusion possible. Brooks never did sports, never had to adjust his abilities on reality before and got fed a gigantic ego in fake wrestling. His post fight speech vs. Gall and behaviour afterwards really showed that. He coped not by adressing that he lost but by playing up annother character. The elderly experienced martial arts star.

As a martial artist who competes, his delusional mind always was his biggest weakness. Not his body or skill that would have evolved more with the right attitude. No one is that spastic / uncoordinated after years of training otherwise.

Hi lived and imo still lives in a complete bubble. And "backing out" was not an option because he got paid a LOT of money to enter the cage. So thats really not something were he gets respect.

Damn that's some deep shiz. Great post.

Fair play to him for giving it a go, especially in such a high profile way when the odds were so against him succeeding.

I think a lot of the blame needs to be laid at the feet of Roufus, we keep getting told what a great coach he is but for all the time they had to spend training him he looked like he'd never trained a day in his life.

WWE is the right place for Phil.
His mic skills will be enough to cash big again

Why does he walk in as though his shit doesn't stink ? With his head held high acting like he's the shit when he just had to return to WWE cus he got wrecked MMA? Guys persona rubs me the wrong way dont understand how he has fans

The sad thing is the wrestler that should have come over and wanted to come over Kurt Angle couldnt get medically cleared. But they let Punk fight.
Too old and slow. Kurt would get smoked

At least he tried and trained hard. I see no problem with it.

Sherdoggers are keyboard warriors with a lot of finger practice.

He’s going back to what he does best, good for him no denying his skill as a professional wrestler on the mic

Shot his shot in mma and failed but at least the man tried, more than most keyboard warriors would ever do

Happy for him. I admire his balls for giving it a shot, but the dude simply doesn't belong in the UFC.

<Fedor23>

I know we all laugh at him and his pathetic MMA/fighting skills, but i still hespec him for
stepping in to that cage.

We have to respect him for having the guts to step in the octagon (that shit gotta be scary), but let's be honest, that was a dumb idea from day 1.

The guy is old as shit, as virtually no MMA experience, isn't particularly gifted (talent, physiques, athleticism) and should have been fighting other amateurs, as a hobby, on regional circuits.

That's a shame the UFC accepted to give that guy 2 fights and a shame that an athletic commission allowed these fights to happen.

Lesnar had some success in the UFC cause he's an anomaly: a very big and gifted guy, with credible olympic wrestling credits. Punk hasn't any of Lesnar's qualities that helped him to be competitive against way more experienced fighters.

Enough with this respect and admiration because he was willing to fight bullshit. That would all make sense if he had taken a fight in some amateur circuit to see if he had what it takes.

This was an extremely well paid ego trip which he got to indulge in. He deserves no respect for taking advantage of his day job as circus performer to live out a dream most people have to bleed for years for. He humiliated himself in front of millions and will forever be the punchline to jokes among mma fans and that's exactly what he deserves.
