Quentin Tarantino vs Christopher Nolan

Death Proof is also a shit film. Use a better example.

Pulp Fiction also drags a little at times.

Here comes a huge shit storm, but It's true. And I would hope even fans of the film would admit to it.

Just saying that it drags is not an example. I want a clear laid out example describing where it drags, and what makes you come to the conclusion that it does.

the scene where bruce willis is talking to his chick in the cab is pretty bad. pretty much any scene where he's talking to her is draggy man. I love the movie but it drags bad at certain parts. They just randomly start talking about sh*t that doesn't pay off or could be summed up.

You think this why? I find Fincher's latter efforts devoid of soul.

Maybe, but I think Zodiac and The Social Network are better than anything the other two have done lately and TGWTDT was decent. Tarantino has had some excellent scenes but for me his movies have been falling apart lately. Inception wasn't bad.

You find out in that scene that Bootch killed the other boxing man. Its also the begining of him fucking Marcellous Wallace (sp), and he don't liked to be fucked by anyone accept Mrs Wallace.

So I disagree. You're reaching here.

Lol, those are pretty damn small parts. You can't use a 5 min scene and say the movie drags.

Is there anything else you'd like me to do your lordship?

Go and watch the film yourself....I'm not the first person to say that Tarantino films drag....he puts way too much unnecessary dialogue into his films and that makes them drag a bit.

For me, no question, it is Nolan. Tarantino, I think is the better artist, and has had more of an impact on movie making, however, if I was given a choice to see an unknown movie from one of these two, I am going with Nolan.

So you don't have an example then. Got it.

Usually the less lauded out of the spotlight are the real gems:

Del Torro

Edgar Wright

Alfonso Cuar

Death Proof is a great example of poor pacing.

Terrible example. It's pretty clear in that movie he wasn't going for a traditional story arc, and it's clear he used unconventional pacing intentionally.

Poor pacing is when the pacing detracts from the desired effect of the narrative, in this movie the odd pacing was part of the effect.

I am not a huge fan of that film, but I agree with the way you worded this.

PLANET TERROR is a shit film. DEATH PROOF is leagues above it. I like how the long beginning teases out, delays, the inevitable crash you know is coming. It felt like an authentic chase crash film. And the lap dance was worth its weight in gold.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead singing to herself was pretty all right.

And Michael Parks sells great story while walking down a blank hallway.

I put ZODIAC on my radar, but I hate to say it: THE SOCIAL NETWORK was so tepid. Many moments I wanted to say, "What the hell is anyone even talking about?"

Where do you find Tarantino's weaknesses? Is it a veers-off-reality sort of thing? Fictional credibility falls apart?

Idk. I think 'The Social Network' is an outstanding movie. I thought I would hate it but I loved it.

Qt for mindless flicks, Nolan if you feel like using your brain

I don't think of his as mindless. I think the melding of music, dialogue, style and character is very mentally stimulating.

It's like saying Jazz is more mindless than Rap, since rap has a more detailed concise story, whereas Jazz is just an interplay of style.

Same here, Its also a departure from his normally dark nature which was a surprise to see him do so well with.
