Lets have a look at this idea shall we.

Only amateur fight

Khaled Laalaam - Had just come off finishing second in the IMMAF European Championships when he fought Khamzat, went on to win the IMMAF World Championships the same year he fought Khamzat. Now 1-0 as a pro having just turned pro a couple of months ago. Khamzat is the only guy to finish him to this point.

Pro fights

Garde Olve Sagen - Former IMMAF World Championship finalist as an Ammy but not a great pro record, however both pro losses are against guys who fought in the UFC in Khamzat and Rostem Akman.

Ole Magnor - This one is a bit of a can tbf, 6-6 as a pro but has generally been fed to ex-high level ammy prospects.

Marko Kisic - Was 5-0 when he fought Khamzat, but has fallen off a bit since and is now 6-3. Did beat a 9-2 guy the fight before he fought Khamzat

Sidney Wheeler - Former high school state champion wrestler who went to turn pro in MMA rather than pursue college (doesn't seem to have been the best decision) 8-3 when he fought Khamzat but only losses are to two UFC guys (GM3 and Brendan Allen) and top prospect Abdoul Abdloulragimov.

Ikram Aliskerov - Combat sambo world champion, 8-0 when he fought Khamzat and got KO'd and now 11-1. Mostly fought solid competition. One of the best MW's currently outside the UFC.

Mzwandile Hlongwa - 4-0 when he fought Khamzat and now 6-1 and has fought decentish competition lately.

John Phillips - 22-9 when he fought Khamzat. Always been a bit of a hard hitting journeyman. Not a particularly great win but Khamzat came in as a late replacement, so it's not like he was picked.

Rhys McKee - 9-2 when he fought Khamzat, then lost to Alex Morono (no shame in that) and looked good in last Cage Warriors fight. Not an amazing opponent, but the best they could find in a few days.

Gerald Meerschaert - 8-6 in the UFC and has beaten Muradov and Giles. Most losses are to ranked fighters. Extremely harsh to call him a can.

Li Jingliang - 10-4 in the UFC when he fought Khamzat. Recent wins over Santiago Ponzinibbio and Zalseski Dos Santos.

So far, yeah, but isn't he like 4 fights in?
All this hubbub about UFC immediately putting every one in with lions is bullshit...
There's a build-up. He's 4 fights deep... relax.

Marty is already retired ,
Khamzat wrote his check !

If you read the post I'm pretty clearly laying out that he hasn't fought cans but I suppose people don't read things on Sherdog and I should have known that.

Sherdog gonna Sherdog.

Prospect gets a low ranked opp: "He's only fighting cans!"
Prospect gets a top 10 opp: "He doesn't deserve this!"

thats why hes a prospect or a hype train. He will be tested soon. Nobody is claiming he is the goat unironically

You just set up a strawman for yourself to knock down though?
When did I say he didn't deserve anything? That's the missing piece of your B-Side argument puzzle bud
I was actually defending him,
Essentially saying... yeah he hasn't fought anybody noteworthy yet but that's to be expected. He's only just started, so top acting like he should have fought everybody in the top 5 already.
Not sure what your angle is.

No cans but the competition you listed is legit for someone to be labelled UFC caliber, but for a guy who is touted as next three division champ and not just as a prospect but like he could literally get those belts right now if given te opportunity, its certainly not the strongest competition. And still didnt face a fellow wrestler in UFC.

I actually agree with you.
It's my general comment on how fickle Sherdog is.

Thread restored, thanks mods

No, but he can only fight who he's given and what he's been given aren't cans.

Gerald could easily be 10-4 in UFC too. He got robbed against Holland and Anders. Also just finished Muradov who was one of the best prospects @ MW. Considering some of the bums or fossils ranked @ MW right now Gerald easily could be.

Do people actually say Khamzat only fights cans or is this something TS imagined just to make a thread about it?

You could argue Jiri only fought cans until he reached the UFC. Fighters take time to develop. Imagine your heavyweight debut being against Ngannou. It just doesn't work that way.
