Roman came to our open mat on Friday and we had some good rounds. Then I went to Complete on Saturday with Travis.
Ramping up the training for my next local comp Oct 4th. Still heavily focused on leglocks as that's my A-game, but I'm also starting on the feet to work on my wrestling.

The intensity has ramped up at the gym—a lot more live drilling and live rounds. We have 3 fighters with MMA fights on Oct 3rd, and several grapplers competing on Oct 4th.

On Friday, I drilled competition rounds with my Greco-Roman wrestler friend. We went 5x rounds of 5mins, taking a round off in between. It was the perfect prep for a competition.

I coached the class on Thursday. We covered defensive concepts from Saddle/Cross-Ashi.

Visited Kelowna for the long weekend and found this awesome gym focused on No-gi.
One of their older black belt caught me in a straight armbar. I don't tap very often, but that was so slick. He kept the head trapped and reached over to my lat so I couldn't limp arm out.
The next day, I kept a strong posture to prevent it.

Not the result I wanted. Lost the two matches in my bracket. I was winning the first half of both matches, but there were no points until the second half. I need to go back and work harder to start beating these black belts. I'm almost there; I don't lose these high-level matches by much. It's both frustrating and motivating me to work harder.

At least I won my first match in the absolute with a sick calf slicer. I had the perfect calf slicer from the front, and the guy wouldn't tap. I started cranking at an angle to add pressure to the knee, and he tapped instantly. Back to the gym soon. My next comp is local in 2 weeks, but it's bigger than the last local one I did. There's a bunch of black and brown belts in this one.

Great job! I know it's a bit disappointing losing on points but it's pretty damn nice to be able to say you could have beat black belts!

Felt super sharp all week. I've been working on Sumi Gaeshis, as that is what I had the most success with at ADCC. I've been easily flipping super-heavies on demand. I'm confident going into this local comp next week, I can't wait.

I didn't end up competing. They had my match scheduled at 9:45pm, AGAIN. The absolute was even later than that. 1-1/2hrs away from town, too. They did the same thing in March. Back then, I complained and they gave me a voucher which I used on this competition. They had the same problem again this time. I'm not a fan of training super late at night; I like to train as early in the day as possible. Also, how is that good for the sport? Which hobbyist is going to compete at 10:00/11:00 pm, 1-1/2hrs away from town? They should split this event into two days: either gi/nogi or kids/adults.

Anyways, I'm not mad, I'm on holidays now finally. I'm teaching two leglock classes next week, super excited. I'll go over calf slicers the first day. They're underrated, I have a lot of success with them. I'll go over toe holds the second day as those are a great counter to leglocks.

Broke up with this girl I had been dating for a year. I'm at peace with that. It was a ton of fun, but that's as far as it was meant to go.

Taught two leglock classes this week, first on Calf Slicers and second on Toe Holds. One of the white belts hit a calf slicer at open mat and he was so proud to come and tell me. A lot of guys have been threatening the toe holds to counter leg lock as well, it's great to see it.
