I've alwayz focused on irl application of any martial art, & boxing is only valid as a part of MMA irl. That said, very early on in my life, I became completely disinterested in "sport boxing" & have not followed it since I discovered MMA.
I appreciate the sweet science for what it is, but it's a limited sport. In that regard, so is MMA a limited sport, but it's about as close as we can get (in sport) to what will work in an irl life fight atm.
For example: Yearz ago, I had a friend who was a trained boxer for years, but after watching the UFC, he wanted to learn wrestling & BJJ... which I knew, & so we cross trained together for about a month. (he turned out to be an asshole so I stopped hanging out with him after that)
Anywayz, that guy waz a hot head, & got into a street fight with a co-worker not long after that. He reported that when the guy swung on him, he shot a double leg, the guy gave his back & he sunk in a choke. The conversation waz over in less than 30 seconds... No Boxing needed.
