After I got to know the UFC, I realized that this sport is about two people hitting each other with pillows—lost its charm, just kid stuff.
Now you are just being ridiculous.

Pillows that KILL

Just the big fights. Usyk, Loma, Bivol and Inoue are my favorites.
I like boxing as much as MMA but tend to watch more MMA, probably cause it's easier to keep up with

I don't follow it even 30% (Usman) as much as MMA, and possibly less than KB, though I don't follow KB much these days, either. But hand fights are cool. Tank/Roach fight last weekend was entertaining

I don't follow it at all, MMA is mostly fast paced, stupid fun, while boxing is kind of the tennis of combat sports.
I can navigate the bore of tennis greatly though as I played it competitively (I was an amateur and not a good one), in boxing I can hardly tell who's winning half the time (I could be a judge!).

I like combat sports, when I was a kid I watched every boxing fight I could, but there weren't that many available for me ('90s in brazil and my parents didnt have cable).
Somehow I stumbled on a muay thai fight, a very low level one where both guys gassed with 2 minutes. I thought it was way cooler then boxing at the time, but it was a one time thing since I couldnt find places to watch it plus I didnt know any fighter or organization name.
Early '00s a friend showed up with some pride DVDs and some old UFC VHS tapes and it really took away from my boxing enjoyment. After that my interest in boxing was in old great fights (Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Tyson, Sugar).

Nowadays I dont keep up with boxing and only watch some big fights. I honestly didnt know who Bivol and Beterbiev were until they fought last year. The first tank Davis fight I watched was last week robbery.
So I watch some big names (Usik/Canelo/Fury) as a casual, I dont keep up and someone must tell me "this guy is fighting this weekend, you should check out".

I actually watch and keep up more with submission grappling and ONE's Muay Thai than boxing.

Not anymore. I might watch a fight a year at most these days and I can't even remember the last boxing match I saw. Used to watch fights almost every weekend back in the 80s and early 90s, but then all the fights went to PPV and cable TV just kept recycling the same fights over & over so I lost interest & quit watching.

about as casual as you can get. I really enjoyed the trilogy between Fury and Wilder, used to try and catch the Canelo fights when GGG was still around. I recognize the big names when I see them but don’t keep up to date at all.

This was the video i watched to put me on to him. I know he's undefeated ect, but this is boxing. I just assume he'll never fight tank davis or anyone like that in his weight range and they'll both be undefeated for years and years to come or whatever.

There was so much background leading up to Inoue-Donaire that made their meeting and that performance so much more memorable too. Great fight.

I know we're used to pretty wide weight class differences in MMA, but the idea that Inoue started off at light flyweight (108) and dominated his way up to super bantam (122) which is 4 weight classes up, then has the expectation to go up another 3 divisions to fight Tank, who is currently at lightweight (135) but has been from super featherweight (130) to super lightweight (140) is still a pretty crazy ask.

Inoue did get to 122 in 2023, so maybe he's due to go up again. He is the only loss on Fulton's record, who moved up and is a champ at FW, but there's just unfortunately not many names between Inoue's weight and Davis'. Best case scenario? He moves up once to beat Fulton again and get champ at FW, then move up again to see if Roach, the guy who got cheated out of beating Tank at LW to come back down to defend super FW against him, then move up a 3rd time to fight Tank.

But that's again a huge ask, and boxing is all about never getting anything done, so I'd doubt it ever happens

Mainly follow the big fights at the HW division and LHW. Say what you will about the quality of boxing today, its HW division/fighters are exponentially better than present day UFC HW.

The story going into his fight with Nery was also really interesting, and made the actual fight and result delicious to watch.

The "pillows" protect their hands, not their heads. It might largely reduce cuts, sure, but it actually increases force. The damage is just more concussive than the more superficial surface damage we see in MMA

It makes a bigger difference on defense, than offense. It is much harder to defend against strikes with MMA gloves.

But to call them pillows because they cushion the force of scored blows?? Have these people watched boxing?? lol

Since mma came about I hardly watch. Pro mma fighters have more plates spinning in a fight which makes it immensely more interesting to me.
I don't like the hugging in boxing.

MMA you're in a Thai clinch, boxing the ref is like guys stop hugging for a second

Your old av was better not that I can recall it

And both.

Right. Other than helping their guard, the idea that boxing gloves somehow make the sport easier on the guys getting punched has been one of the longest standing misconceptions about boxing

Edit* there's a good reason most MMA fighters you see doing the punch machine are wearing boxing gloves, and it ain't to protect the machine

No.

It drives me crazy to watch fighters fight with gloves and no kicks and grappling. That front leg is right there !

I find other combat sports besides mma Tobe irritating and stressful to watch.

You get over it pretty fast imo.

Although I watched boxing before I got into MMA too.

Obviously this is a forum of MMA fans. I wonder what your level of commitment to boxing is, if there is any?

It does take some dedication to understand and keep up with the sport of Boxing as it's alot more complicated and vast than the world of MMA, not to mention has a much longer history. Do you try?

I prefer boxing to mma. Especially the fanbases. MMA has some corny ass fans.
