Poatan moves to 3rd place tie for LHW Title wins

Rumble and Gus being better than Jiri is questionable at least especially Gus who's most notable feats in MMA are his losses.
You mean Jones and DC, two other guys who'd maul Jiri?

Jiri undeniably has a better resume and is a tough fight for both. The only fighter who's beaten Jiri at LHW in the last 12 years is Poatan... Jiri's last loss at LHW outside of Alex was in 2013, his 8th career fight.

Jiri is 26-3-1 the last 12 years and 2 of those losses are to Poatan and the other to Lawal at HW which he avenged. And he's beaten Nemkov, Albrektsson, Cappelozza, Lawal, Volkan, Reyes, Glover, Rakic, Jamahal, Rountree.
Avenged against 40 year old washed Lawal at the end of his career and who was KOd in 4 straight. 42 year old Glover who got dominated in his next fight by Hill which was his final fight of his career. 23 year old Nemkov with 5 pro fights who lost again in his next fight.

Prime Gus and Rumble would beat them all and make it look easy, so his resume is irrelevant.

Maybe, maybe not. I'd love to have seen it.
Dude gets rocked like every fight, even against a gassed 42 year old Glover right before Glover gave the fight away going for the guillotine. No way he survives Rumble.

Pereira is such a great fighter, came late to mma and still making an undeniable mark. Kind of crazy looking at his records compared to other champs. Jones has the crown locked for maybe my lifetime.

I think it's just hard to compare eras across simple numbers. LHW is sort of weak, but does have some good fighters, but many are very similar and favorable matchups for Alex. Unless he takes Ulberg or Khamzat fight, I think he's basically done at LHW. But we should wait for confirmation.

Some reason it's very hard for me to rank Alex, even though he's one of my favorites. He's passed every test and beaten everyone who has beat him, but also has shown some weaknesses. Still hope he becomes the only 3 weight champ and rooting for him to finish his career strong. I knew he was a badass in kickboxing before his first mma fight and never expected he'd make it to here this fast. I think the biggest issue is the champs he beat were old (Jan) or short reigned champs from injuries (Jiri, Hill) or Ank was a champ because he beat Pereira. There's just something pulling me away from making him a lock behind Jones, sort of feels like how I hesitate to call Stipe the HW goat.

#1 Jon Jones 14-0 (1nc )
#2 Tito 6- 2
#3 (tied) Frank Shamrock 5-0
Poatan 5-1
Chuck 5-2

#6 DC 4-1 (1nc)
#7 Randy 3-3
#8 tied Rampage, Machida, Jan : 2 wins

If my math and memory is correct

Potential is 6-2 overall in title fights counting his MW run, which is tied with DC

He is at this point beginning to knock on the door of GOAT territory as 3x champ, 2 division champ and 6 title fight wins.

Not quite there yet imo, but another win or two and he is in the peripheral region of GOATs talks...
If by some miracle he won a HW title fight that might put him in Conversation for proper GOAT, but that is a very tall order

He joins GSP and Randy (5x) as 3x champs

6 title wins still trails

Jones 16/(17)
Gsp 13
MM 12
Anderson 11
Nunes 11
Schev 10
Hughes 9
Aldo 8 + 3 WEC
Izzy 7
Volk 7
Sorry but he is too old to get past several of these people.

Thank u, someone had to say it
Again, how does somebody who has this many posts over that many years know so little?

Then again, if that's really you in your pfp, it all makes sense.

DC at LHW is 7-1-1

Wins over

Barista Cummins who was a part-time fighter
Post-TRT ban Hendo
Rumble x2
Gus
Short notice, off the couch past prime Anderson
Volkan

Rumble, Gus and Volkan are his only notable wins at LHW and Gus was a razor close, evenly fought SD FOTY candidate. He was always a paper champ at the weight too since Bones was the lineal #1. DC isn't anywhere close to the 2nd greatest LHW.
he fought prime rumble and gus
prime rumble and gus are way way way better than
punching bag jiri , jamahal hill , roundtree and ankalaev

quality > quantity

At this point I wonder if he even fights at LHW again.

If they can make the Jones fight I think Alex takes his bag and rides off in the sunset.

If that doesn't happen I could see 1 or 2 more title defenses

2 would put him behind Jon Jones only in terms of LHW title wins.

Rumble lost at welterweight. He hits hard but Alex would starch him. Gus as well
I'd probably give Pereira the edge against both if wrestling wasn't a thing.

What do you think would happen if Pereira fought at WW? Triple champ?

Youre doing the old Attacking the person instead of the argument huh

What a loser, not only do you know fuck all about mma, you are a noob in life as well and going directly to the ignore list. Can't be bothered anymore.

You believe Gustafsson was in his prime losing to Smith, and that "you're retarded to think he's as good as jiri."

Great arguments, genius.

It sounds like he wants big money superfights then retirement. I dont feel like he is very interested in title defenses or even more belts.

Gus got dog walked by Anthony Smith you're retarded to think he's as good as jiri.

And Jiri got KTFO by King Mo LOL. Gus lost to Smith very late in his career well beyond his best years.

You gotta be retarded to think these guys are not very evenly matched. Neither one is much better than the other.

But if I had to bet on it, I would take Gus to win.

Rumble got subbed by Koscheck, Belfort, Clementi

Beating the LHW champion will always be more impressive

Agreed.

Prize fighters fight for money.

Alex has got 6 title wins in the bag already.
Legacy looking pretty solid.
Has been a company man on several occasions.

Time to stack as much money as possible on the way to retirement.

Gus had 2 of the most inspiring losing efforts ever against Bones and DC but he still lost both fights. Got stopped in the 1st by Davis and Rumble 2 of the only other elite primed LHWs he fought. Jiri is actually a really tough H2H matchup for Gus too and has a way better resume. Gus being better than Jiri is doubtful.
I still rank the Mauler as the (if not one) best fighters to be a multiple time contender and not touch gold, I’m a fan of both Gus and Jiri, I see an argument for either to win head/head. Gus’s tight boxing, excellent durability and elite TDD could give Jiri problems, the caveat being Gus would need to find Prochazka’s chin early and work the body often. Gus had excellent cardio, but faded in 5 round fights. IMO Gus would need to put Jiri away early, similarly to Pereira. Otherwise Jiri would force a brawl with relentless pressure and eventually drown him, Gus was susceptible to becoming frustrated when put on his back foot and pressured. It has proven to be extremely difficult to decision Prochazka, he’s a kill or be killed fighter. The Czech has only been to a decision once, he was fighting at HW (open weight) and injured his right knee, in the opening round, he couldn’t switch stances although he still won by decision, he had to pull out from the tournament.
