Poatan is not big enough for 205.

??? Skinny legs is a very big advantage. If I want to weigh a lot for my weight class (like 225-230 for weighing in at 205) I want explosive power and speed from my lower body, not tons of tissue to slow me down and have huge oxygen demand. Legs become an albatross when you aren't sprinting or have to fight for 25 minutes.
GSP, Volk, DC, Aljo, Benson, Leon, and several others have had big bricked up legs.

All comes down to style and how you utilize your attributes, it's not black and white like "big legs are bad" or "big legs are good".

Of course he's big enough for 205. Here he is with an average Sherdogger @BoxerMaurits , and they are about the same size. If anything, Poatan is about 6'6'' and 255 pounds of muscle, per the usual Sherdogger standard

You can tell if @BoxerMaurits right hand finds that chin, it's lights out for Alex. I am going to need a picture of Alex next to UberTS just to see exactly how undersized he is to be fighting at all.

I saw this thread last night an lol, I see that it’s aged quite badly…

Beating the dead horse, but…
<{jackyeah}>
Alex on weigh-in day: 186 lbs (84.3 kg),
On fight day: 219 lbs (99.3 kg).
Also mention he was Glory KB LHW champ
<{you!}>

Potan is tall and lean but he does not have a massive frame and he is not thick. He has skinny legs.

He will be out muscled by guys at 205.
The man won glory 210 pound title more than once. he has boxing matches at hw.

100%, but they are outliers. It also isn't dependent on your style. For every GSP that has bodybuilder legs and wrestles great, there are 50 effective MMA grapplers without them. Having long, skinny legs is also largely genetic (thus why I said it's an advantage). For every Mirko throwing head kicks there's 100 Anderson's and Izzy's smoking them.

I didn't say you can't be successful with big legs. I said small legs are a huge advantage and it genuinely is. Especially if you have lanky legs too.

I don't care what it is, either. Grappling or striking. I'd rather face a guy in my weight class with big meaty legs any day of the week because that means I have a lot more mass and strength in my upper body. My kicks are going to be faster. distance management is going to be easier. My hips are going to be more mobile. My oxygen demand is going to be easier to manage because the majority of my oxygen consuming tissue is closer to my heart. Body triangles, triangles, back taking, headkicks, everything is easier with skinnier legs. Even taking leg kicks is awful with bigger legs because a larger volume of blood flows to the inflamed areas. Your legs get even heavier.

There's something to be said about big powerful legs with chain wrestling and generating punching power. But that's easier to manage. IMHO. I'm jelly of legs when I want to have a proportional physique in the mirror but that's the last thing I'd want in training. Ideally I want my legs to be as strong as possible with as minimal size as possible. I'd much rather have size and strength on my upper body where I do at least 3/4 of the work in combat arts.

I wouldn't say it's an outlier, if anything there's more high level fighters with big muscular legs vs long skinny legs from what I can tell.
Again, it's going to be style dependent; more explosive striker/ wrestler types are going to usually have big legs, lanky counter strikers long skinny legs, as a generalization.

Wow, I genuinely disagree. I think if you look at the top contenders from each weight class, such as welterweight (below) you'd be shocked how most people have pretty thin upper legs vs the guys with big "explosive" legs. We could go tit for tat with this but in the interest of time I just agree to disagree. In my experience as an observer and training partner, big legs tend to be an albatross, usually associated with your height (genetics) or having a wrestling background (which tends to favor short, compact, jacked from head to toe guys).

Seems to me for every Johny and GSP there's tons more Colby's and Leon's and Nick's and Nate's and BJ's and Fitch's and Condit's etc etc etc. but cheers.

this guys face triggers me so much, i swear to god it makes me angrier that he seems like a nice guy and is a good poster

He looked better, IMO, at 205 in Glory. Just quicker, more energy, solid, take shots better (granted he has underrated defence and was not going toe to toe with anyone at 205).

But not sure how he'll look after a long career in KB, then moving to MMA and the hard cuts to 185, throw in the KO from his last fight.

I hope he does well at 205. Beat Yan, Fight another contender and if he wins get a title shot and set up a rematch with Izzy at 205 where he is much more durable.

"Too big for 185", "too small for 205". Which is it?
195lbs, Franklin weight, seriously tho, considering how tall he is it might take some time to do it right but he should be ok for LHW, specially cause he seems to have the mass for the division once he recovers his full weight after a fight.

You realize that a fighter's in cage weight is them dieting down to lose as much body fat as possible and not what they would "Walk Around" at with a more normal amount of BF% right? Poatan at 211 for a MW fight is his weight regained after dehydrating to 185 limit and rehydrating. During a 6-8 week camp fighters cut BF by eating less and less calories as the fight nears.
