LOL at singling out pitbulls. Fuck me. How about don't get any dangerous large bread dogs if you are not prepared to properly train it/have it properly trained.

How about don't take your dog, of any size, in public unless it is properly trained.

It's not just pits. We need some kind of system in place where owning one of these dogs is not a fucking right, but a privilege.

so either pit owners have some secret knowledge that outside observers dont, or they become so emotionally attached to their dog, that they are personally offended when someone talks bad about the breed as a whole. "how dare they talk about my fluffy like that, he wouldnt harm a fly!"

All that proves is that your buddies are really good with dogs. But pit bulls were bread specifically to be vicious. Just like Norwich Terriers were bread to hunt vermin. While it's true that pits are capable of being well behaved dogs, they are fiercely determined and rather large, which makes them dangerous. Especially in the wrong hands. And more so than other dogs.

This means that the ones who weren't so good at fighting got killed, and their genetic traits along with them, leaving those that were killers to reproduce. It's common fucking sense for anyone who studied even high school biology and Mendel's peas. Of course, if you don't believe in science, I don't really know what to tell you.

Luckily the vast majority of pit bulls aren't killers so those traits you're so afraid of should be bred out eventually right?

idiot people have decided that pits are the breed to get so the stats point to pits being bad but its misleading. the breed is absolutely fine. Be careful with them, but I would say that about any dog.

You have to admit that the consequences of "not being careful" as a pitbull owner are a little worse than if you owned for example a miniature yorkie.

Sort of like letting your toddler use a plastic picnic butter-knife, while still understanding that you perhaps should not let him use the chainsaw just yet. If the kid isn't careful with the plastic butterknife he may scratch himself, but act the same with a chainsaw and it would cut him in half.

I defend them from broad assumptions and bad information. Other than that, I'm very honest about how big a responsibility they are to own. Just because I know she'll never hurt anyone doesn't mean I'm nonchalant about being vigilant. All dog owners should be as good as I am.

I've never owned one. Closest to it is a family member owning one. Near as I can tell they are very loyal and loving dogs. Most of them don't ever hurt anybody. Maybe the problem is that they are pretty good at attacking so when they do the results are more pronounced. I'd be more nervous around a chow (which I've actually been bitten by). That said, I'd be hesitant to own one because of the liability. Even if they could statistically be shown to not be the most dangerous breed, the perception is out there to the point that people want to single out pit bull owners for criminalization when something bad happens due to their dog.

I bet a vast majority of basset hounds are no longer working hunting dogs in this country and haven't been for decades but many like the one I got from the shelter instinctively had some of the behavioral traits of a scent dog without training.

And bad owners/tough guys aren't exactly killing off the violent pits. All this plus with people getting pits from rescues without really knowing their lineage I think these fighting genes aren't being erradicated as quickly as hoped.

Ultimately these aggressive dogs have this hunting /fighting aggression that's been bred into them.

If they've been a bit socialized and trained they will refrain from biting perhaps but some will still do that as well depending on how much of an asshole they are 😅

This one of those times where I don't know if a person's ignorance is to be mocked or frightening since they could potentially impact my quality of life.

Many breeds were bred to show a high prey drive. Prey, not their handlers or even human beings. These dogs were culled.

lol "years of training" I have a pit bull with 0 training other then sit, when she's out she comes back 1st call. Most annoying thing is trying to get her to stop playing with the neighbors golden retriever.

Pit bull bashing needs to stop are you even certain it was a pit bull or did it just look like one? Most of these cases people see a dog with a pink nose and report it as a pit bull.

Out of Rotties, Shepards, etc... Pitts have the weakest bite and smallest mouth. I would much rather get bitten by a pit bull than a full sized GS, rottie, etc...

And Rotties are over the fucking top aggressive, more so than a PB.

Can't say I agree with your last sentence at all. I've been around many, many Rotties, and they're one of the easiest breeds to train, and raise correctly. If you're talking about a Rott doing it's job and being on guard duty then yes, don't ever trespass where they're on guard.

I've had labs, pitts, giant schnauzers, and Rotweillers. Rotties are my favourite breed, but you must be a responsible owner. That holds true for all dogs.
