Phil Davis: Jon Jones would lose "badly" to Cain Velasquez (and other heavyweights)

Are people forgetting that Jon Jones, just beat probably the second best heavyweight in the world??

Are people also forgetting that Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier both fought well above 205 on fight night (essentially making them heavyweights who just cut weight)?

It's a ridiculous assumption that Cain will beat Jones. He will be favourite as he is the Number 1 heavyweight, but Jones is not an easy fight for anyone on the planet.

Phil Davis should focus on himself. Jones would automatically be ranked in top 3 HW based on last performance. Who else is there?

People who just started watching the sport don't realise, Chael went toe to toe with whom many consider the greatest in the sport, a fighter called Anderson Silva. He then moved back to LHW and tooled Shogun faster than Jones. So Chael was a levity threat to any fighter.

If your just starting to watch the sport, you can find out about its recent history and info on weight classes online.

Pretending that Sonnen was ever any sort of threat to Jones while simultaneously calling out another poster for his ignorance of MMA. Interesting tactic.

Also, you must know (though your wording makes it seem like you don't) that Sonnen's match against Shogun came after his match against Jones, and that his destruction of Shogun was more a testament to how far Shogun has fallen than it was to how dangerous Sonnen was to the LHW division.

Who is cain? Jones is the best fighter in the world period.

Phil davis and King Mo have been water-boys for many of his opponents in hope of JJ loss. Low class!

God I hope that Ryan bader knocks him the F' out...

Jones would beat Cain. Phil just go back to choking out Gus.

I don't think the issue with Sonnen was that he wanted/needed a full camp. It was that he wanted some time to gameplan. Jon fought Vitor on like two weeks notice. He said, way back when, the only person he would have fought on 8 days notice was Rashad because they had a game plan. People knock Jon for lots of things, but one of his big gifts is that he is a student of the game. So he wanted at least some preparation.

When he said he'd take the Cain fight "in a heart beat" he doesn't mean he wouldn't have to train for Cain. He means that he thinks he could beat him and if the UFC made the money right he'd fight him.

Just watched Joe Rogan vs Brendan Schaub for the first time and wow :O Rogan made him his bitch.

People keep forgetting how comically empty the HW division actually is...

Go to Sherdog and Fight Matrix rankings and read anywhere below 4

Jon Jones would wipe the floor with any heavyweight outside of the top 3 of Cain, JDS, and Werdum. Travis Browne is up in the air.

I'd even give the top 3 coin tosses.

Why does Phil Davis love talking about Jones so much? Focus on your shit bro! You might get whooped by Bader like Rumble did.

"pretending"
Chael was a legitimate threat to anyone. He went toe to toe with arguably the best fighter in the world and almost beat him.
He fights at about 220 and beat the snot out of Shogun after Gus squeeked out a victory against him.

Sherdog waS convinced Jones was afraid of Sonnens aggression and ducking him. (check the archives). Plus Vegas gave him better odds than Gus of beating Jones.

It's easy in hindsight to dismiss Chael now, but that's only AFTER Jones crushed him, wasn't the opinion before the fight.

Same way people now dismiss DC after his loss, same way they'll dismiss Cain of he ever were to fight and lose to the GOAT.

He would lose to Cain for sure, maybe Werdum and JDS too. About rest of that division who knows. Jones doesn't have power to put Reem away so maybe Reem would have success in the clinch with knees. Problem for Jones is that he has no power so he pretty much needs to win on decision most of the time while taking damage which is not fun in HW division.

But HW is pretty tin, Jones would be top 5 or top 3 for sure

Yeah a lot of confused in this post, a lot.
Newflash, all LHW cut weight, so do MW, infact MW's like Weidman, Chael and Vitor weigh as much as Jones.

Now by 'smaller' opponents, you mean shorter, easy to get confused if your not familiar with the concept of weight classes. Check it out, fighters are categorized by their weight, not height, so if a fighter is taller or shorter than his opponent's he's still the same size.

People who just started watching the sport don't realise, Chael went toe to toe with whom many consider the greatest in the sport, a fighter called Anderson Silva. He then moved back to LHW and tooled Shogun faster than Jones. So Chael was a levity threat to any fighter.

*I've watched it for...17 years* & this lunacy that Chael is some big threat at LHW has been exposed. All due respect, He was a threat when MW was the weakest division this side of women's atom weight & ruled by a guy content with that. Evans did more damage to Sonnen in 90 seconds than "prime" Silva could do in 6 rounds.

It's also lunacy that Sonnen or Belfort are the same size as Jon Jones. Go...watch...the...fight. They look 2 weight classes apart. Go..watch..the..fight.

People can way similar weights, but things like...muscle mass, bone structure, thickness, body fat percentage can make 2 individuals vary massively in size & that's without height. Just trust me on this, since you don't trust your own eyes.

I stand by everything there. No confusion, just clearing it up for you.

Clearly. He has been struggling to get guys down who aren't natural mw's, so he's resorted to using his size advantage and holding them against the fence; that shit wouldn't fly vs most hw's.

U mean like he took DC down and made it look easy.
Wasn't DC ranked at HW and rag dolled Barnett.

It's not about mmamath but the difference between HW DC and LHW DC is body fat % not muscle mass.
That means LHW DC is just as strong as HW DC.
Jones had no problem grappling with him I don't see him having probs with anyone outside of Cain.

He just beat the guy who beats Cain in training, so he might have a shot. Why is Phil always talking about Jones?

I love how Jones fans talk about how dominant Jon would be @ HW.. Haha Then why doesn't he stop cutting weight? Maybe he knows HW is a different beast and he will have to step into the Cage with those monsters.. Not you guys! Another thing he beat DC but he didn't beat the HW version of DC.. Also Newsflash DC had to cut weight and if you think Jon fought the best version of DC then you are delusional.

Jon said he "Would fight Cain in a heartbeat" then he backtracked and said he could make 185, he said he would stay at 205 for a long time. When HW was brought up again he said he didn't wanna talk about it. He then said he could eventually fight at HW if it's the "Right" opponent (Translation, hand picked opponent).. Face it Jon Jones fans, your man wants no part of Cain. Bones Knows.. Not to fuck with Cain! Bones knows.. to keep cutting that weight!
