I did not know that. But I would say that the below have had a lot more administrational experience than low level officer / TV personality.

Personally I'm undecided if military service should be a mandatory non-negotiable pre-req for SecWar(Def)

On one hand the Secretary is a high level executive who should leave the warfighting and defence operations to the Joint Chiefs

On the otherhand without ever serving there's a disconnect with the Armed Forces that can never be replicated.

Just looked and I am currently up 828% on my $GE stock. Dogshit dividend but bought in when they brought Culp in as CEO to fix their colossal mess. Still holding so when Trump decides to invade Iran when the Epstein files heat gets too hot or if his polling numbers keep free falling.
IF an old failing Giant Ass company brings in a rock star CEO after years of steady stock price decline. Pick up the stock.

GE isn't really anymore what you think it is. It used to be a large manufacture, than it became a finance company, then an industrial analytics company, and now it is mostly a aerospace and power equipment company. The spike probably has more to do with the fact that there is a huge shortage of power equipment for renewables and data centers. This isn't the only company to transition like this weirdly.

Westinghouse had a CEO Micheal Jordan who basically sold off all of their manufacturing assets to get into media and broadcasting. The guy basically showed up, explained why he didn't like the margins anymore, and the board got onboard to sell off everything and go into a different industry entirely. CBS and Viacom fall under the Westinghouse legacy company. The biggest chunk of Westinghouse's famous power equipment division was sold off to Toshiba.
