That fight wasn’t even close! Pereira got dominated on the feet. Could have reasonably been 50-45 Ankalaev.

I had Ank winning 3-2...and I'm happy the judges got it right. The only consequential things Alex landed were some calf kicks and one head kick late. He got bullied by Ank most of the fight and while the grappling along the cage was a bit dull, it's on Alex to create the space/opportunity for a break.

Pereira landed a shitload of calf kicks in round one so I gave it to him. And the fifth is debatable. Third was pretty close too.

But yeah, overall that was very clearly Ankalaev's fight. He was the aggressor the whole time, he landed the better strikes, was closer to a finish, won the two clearest rounds, and finished strong.

Thinking Pereira won is possible, but not if you were unbiased.

Still landed the cleaner shots and was backing Poatan up the entire round. If the strikes are close, things like generalship and optics make impression on the judges. There was no doubt who commanded that fight.

I don't get how you can score for Alex, I wanted him to win but that would be some boxing decision bs. His leg kicks weren't the magic bullet they should've been. He should've adjusted to punches but couldn't land anything on Ank.

Those kicks seemed like they did less than Ank's punches which visibly rocked Alex. I think Alex should've fought more desperate and went for the KO instead of exclusively using his legs. The wall and stall is just as cheap as hanging back kicking calfs. Alex couldn't handle speed that well and couldn't find openings. I don't even think he should get an immediate rematch.

Round by round scoring by the book, it was very close. Could be 3-2 either way. But overall, Poatan got shut down, Ankalaev controlled the fight and landed the more effective shots. Pereira never had Ank in any trouble and he didn't throw his hands the whole fight. Hard to feel bad about him getting the L for this performance.

Anybody who scored 3 for Alex was just looking for a reason to score it for him lol. The people that think Alex won are essentially looking for reasons to give him rounds, that’s not how you judge fights.
