Pavlovich will destroy Gane

I think it’s the other way around. I think Gane destroys Pav and with better striking technique.

Lol with how bad Pav is on the ground I wouldn’t be surprised if Gane’s 6 months of grappling training is enough to copy the Overeem gameplan on Pav.

Entirely possible. Tuivasa knocked Gane down on his ass. If Pav connects like that, it's over for Gane.

Shertard post suggests a fighter doesn't improve 6 years later.

I’d have to disagree. Not saying that Pav doesn’t have the ability to hurt Gane on the feet but unlike Tuivasa, Pav hasn’t shown one shot knockout power. He more so is a guy that does an excellent job of swarming his opponents for the finish. Him connecting clean on Gane wouldn’t automatically mean the curtains would be drawn.

Gane has talent but he likes to work at his own pace. Pav wouldn't let him and for that reason I'd favour Pavlovich in the match up, Gane reacts badly to being taken out of his comfort zone.

I hope we see the fight at some point, but Gane is a much better striker than anyone else Pavlovich has beaten so far, and physically, much faster also. Blaydes, Tuivasa, Lewis, Shamil, Maurice Greene...Gane will be a pretty big step up for him.

it's like people continue to say the same shit on sherdog, over and over again

Pavlovich is not bad on the ground. he has shown throughout his mma career to have competent wrestling and takedown defense. source: his fight against Blaydes and all of his fights in Russia before UFC.

he only ended up on the ground vs Overeem because of a combination of getting caught with an Overeem right hand and then being tripped from the clinch. a classic Overeem takedown that said Overeem has shown to be very good at over the years.

but nope. ignore the big picture. just spam the same "pavlovich can't grapple" narrative over and over again and post pictures of Overeem beating him.

typical sherdog

Gane got touched by Tuivasa. Stop.
Yea. Once. It was a great shot that would have flattened most.
Gane is up there with Jailton Almeida in terms of virtually never getting hit.
I grant that one shot from Pavlovich is the beginning of the end. But without the threat of a takedown, Gane can dance dance dance.

Sergei: more KO power, bigger reach
Gane: better footwork, more fluid and elusive, better kicks
In terms of pure boxing technique they are pretty equal (in terms of utilising the jab, uppercuts, putting together combinations with hands etc)

Sergei: better wrestling. He has a greco-romain base, has been doing it since he was a kid. He landed some successful takedowns vs dagestaniss and sambo guys back in his FN days. His training partners stated his greco-romain is good including guys like Khabib, Nemkov etc

Gane: better submissions and jiu-jitsu. He actually has submission wins in his career unlike Sergei. Granted the opposition wasn't very good but he still has finished fghts with heel hooks etc, some of those fights even took place in the UFC. Pav has never even attempted a submission in his career. So in terms of pure jiu-jitsu Gane should be valued higher

In terms of cardio Gane is pretty good, since he had multiple 3+ round fights and he didn't slow down in those matches. Sergei had 3 and 5 round fights back in the russian promotions too, so his cardio shouldn't be too bad

I think it's a very close fight overall when you compare their strenghs and weaknesses and it's hard to pick a winner. I kinda lean towards Gane outpointing Sergei in a 5 round fight but if Sergei actually decides to pressure him and look for takedown (Ngannou style) I think he can take Gane down and hold him to win on points. I think his wrestling base and physical power in the clinch would be enough to take Gane down if he can grab a hold of him. But I kinda doubt he'd choose that gameplan, I can imagine him fighting only on feet on purpose or being scared to proactivaely initiate a clinch like Spivak did in the last fight. As a result it can end in a purely kickboxing match and then Gane has some advantages because of his footwork, kicks and point fighting technique. But I do think that Sergei is a better wrestler and if the clinch against the cage situation appears he has high chances to take Gane down if he actually goes for it.

If Gane can outstrike Ngannou and avoid his powershots he can probably do the same against Sergei. If Gane can be outwrestled by Ngannou he can be outwrestled by a Sergei too (physically powerful guy with legit greco-romain technique and years of experience on the mats)

It wasn't a great shot because Tuivasa is a slow and plodding brawler with little skill. If he can find Ganes chin with no threat of a takedown then so can Pav.

I would favor Sergei to beat Gane. Gane has superb movement and has some great striking that would disrupt Sergeis game with his kicks. But overall Gane does leave openings standing, I don't think his offense would hold off Sergei and once he starts pressuring effectively and landing his power shots he ends it.

I think a hell of a lot depends on what kind of fight it is, if Sergei chases down down and turns it into a war I'd favour him, if Gane picks away from range I'd favour him.

I don't think Pav is any good when he isn't steam rolling people with Donkey kong boxing combos. Gane will not be there for it.
