Pancrase: The Forgotten Organization

He's pretty much exclusively lost to elite guys, and has solid wins over Scoggins, and a one sided beatdown win over Kape.

None of that qualify him as a legitimate contender at 145lbs, which is where Horie beat him if im not mistaken.
Much less when Horie lost to another unranked fighter three fights ago.

Horie looks good btw, but when that's the best Pancrase has produced in about a decade...it shows that modern Pancrase is pretty low level these days. Not a top10 org worlwide, and even within Japan, there are several above.

Love to see Shooto and Pancrase make a comeback to the big league.

Iirc Rogan mentioned that he he lived with Kevin James in the 90s and they used to watch Pancrase together, so presumably it was broadcast in the US as well

Watched a few Rutten bouts on Fightpass but are there any full events worth watching?

Funaki is also one of the most skilled grapplers i have ever seen in NHB/MMA history.

Lots of fighters rave about how great he was. I really wish he'd put out some DVDs with his knowledge.

Almost all pancrase fans here are guys who watched historical highlight vids of Funaki, Bas, Ken and Frank after learning about it through the UFC. Very few old schoolers who actually caught it when it was going back in the day. I remember it being advertized as 'Yes we are Hybrid wrestling' on WWF programming in the late 90's when Ken was debuting.

It had its place in the history of the sport.
I fall into that category. HL vids from Sherdog were basically my actual viewing experience of Pancrase before Youtube showed up. And now with Fightpass it makes things so much easier to relive (or view for the first time, in many cases). Some damn interesting events there.

Gotta love the go-go boots and speedo combo!

Here's some recent highlights in English. Fulton does a good job and knows a lot about the JMMA scene

Sad to see they've adopted a standard MMA aesthetic. The original style would be really unique in the modern MMA landscape
