I understand this but I still think they should notify the police. Not saying they would pursue it right away but it would be good to keep on file at the very least.
Yeah I mean he should close the loop on it since he got this far, but still it's mostly worthless. The conversation goes like this:
"Hi. I'd like to report a threatening voicemail I received."
"Do you know who it was from?"
"Yes."
"Do you know why he called?"
"Yes. I left a voicemail for his boss earlier that day saying that he should not let a rapist like him work there."
"........Well maybe the best thing to do here would be to stop calling him and then maybe he will stop calling you."
Plus it seems this guy lives on the West Coast. Maldonado is in NYC. What are the cops going to do again? Call the NYPD? Call the FBI? This kind of stuff is not worth a federal case.
So yeah he should make a report just to do the right thing, but it's a very discouraging process. You cannot just call the cops and make a report. You need to go down to the station during normal business hours and do it in person. It takes several hours, and for something like this you'll just be waiting around until someone has enough free time to get to you. The guy reporting a burglary is going to take priority. And once you make the report, you know it's going nowhere.
This is why I just shake my head when people act like speaking out against these guys is the easy thing to do. No way. They retaliate for this stuff, and there is not much that can be done. You think someone like Georgette Oden has not been harassed and threatened a bunch of times by now? It comes with the territory.
Imagine being an abortion doctor or something. They get calls worse than that all the time. People show up at their kids' schools and threaten them. That is what happens when you take a real stand on a hot button issue. It is also why most people just shut up and let scumbags operate without saying anything because they are afraid of the retaliation.
