Ongoing Team Lloyd Irvin Scandal - Part 6

Erberth Santos

well they have Erberth Santos and Mahmed Aly now plus a few others.
Like flies to shit.

Anyway, I'm surprised how much of this I had forgotten, despite flowing these threads since the first posts; the fact that there was a fight to keep these threads up and the entire Maldonado thing.

Necros of ancient threads can sometimes be annoying but this is knowledge that shouldn't be forgotten by the BJJ community.

We have an organization with a proven history of predatory practices, (sexually, psychologically, financially, etc.) and the only real safety we have is awareness.

This forum is trying to prevent that awareness.

Lloyd Irvin's past was brought up on another forum years ago, and even though the event was factual, it was still hidden by the site owners. There is a very real possibility that if the public has been aware of the kind of person Lloyd Irvin is, a woman wouldn't have been raped on New Years Eve 2012.

Out of all the discussions on this silly forum, this is probably the only one that has real potential to save lives.

I hope the people trying to censor it understand that.
Can you explain a little further? How is Sherdog covering up for Irvin?

Okay, I think I'm up to speed. Well, anyone worried about Lloyd Irvin taking advantage of potential clients have to be happy that he's far less prominent than he was; his time as the coach of grappling's top competitive team, or at least most successful team medal-wise, is long over with the advent of Danaher's group and everything that followed after that and all the major teams that have exploded onto the scene in its wake.

I don't think his once-dominant online marketing model is really as viable as it once was either. That cut-and-paste BJJ website model he'd pass onto his affiliates is an anachronism now. In fact, the only time I hear his name these days is in relation to the accusations towards him.

Can anyone tell me the facts

Imagine an instructor fundraising for the defense of two of his students who allegedly raped AND beat the shit out of another one of his students, when it was already known that the assault was caught on camera.

Then when people start looking at him it turns out he was involved in the gang rape of a minor years prior to this with his lawyer saying "yeah my client was totally at the gang rape, in the room, but he was too drunk to get it up".

However...

So I dunno.

So I dunno.

"Authorities say they sexually assaulted a fellow student after a night of drinking on New year’s Eve earlier this year.

Much of the alleged incident was caught on surveillance video inside of a parking garage next to St. Matthews Catholic Church in Northwest. The tape, which was shown in court, was graphic. But Maldonado's attorneys argued the woman voluntarily accompanied the men and the sex was consensual.

All three were part of the Lloyd Irving Martial Arts Studio in Camp Springs.

During the trial, prosecutors alleged that Maldonado and Schultz both sexually abused the victim repeatedly while she slipped in and out of consciousness.

Documents say that the victim bumped into both Maldonado and Schultz at the Washington nightclub, and they offered to escort her home because she was too drunk to drive.

Defense attorneys for Schultz later told the jury that the sex was consensual."

They kicked the shit out of her too, and the jury decided it hadn't been proven beyond reasonable doubt that the assault wasn't consensual. Even though they watched it happen on parking garage security camera tape during the trial.

It's hard to get convictions sometimes, even when you have objective proof that someone committed the crime. Should the prosecutor have not gone for the kidnapping charge? I dunno, not a lawyer.

But their defense hinged on "yeah we totally did that shit, but she wanted it".

That's fucked.

Hey man I'm just linking the verdict. The jury got to watch the video. And I think that video showed her falling down and hitting her head.

I don't have a dog in the fight here. I just went looking for the details of the case. If the video showed them beating her up I feel like this would have been a slam dunk case.

Just saying - the jurors got to see the video. This stuff happened 10 years ago during the #Believeallwomen #metoo stuff. So the evidence might have contradicted the claims.

Up til today when I read all the shit that happened I assumed it was a brutal rape and these 2 were guilty. I assumed they were both in prison. For years I read the headlines and just said, fuck em.

Lloyd Irvin was a POS 15 years ago and still is. I grew up in small east coast town that had one of their affiliates nearby and they always were posting culty posts. Keenan Cornelius and several other BJJ/MMA guys started there and basically said it was a cult.

Everyone had to call Lloyd "Master"

Problem is the washout rate with BJJ and combat sports. There is always some new kid who doesn't know the past so that is how he has been able to keep his business going.

BJJ attracts predators because it allows a person to have authority over another with no checks and balances. Martial Arts gyms are pretty unregulated.
