So after combing through the Once Upon a Time in America chapter, Frayling's book says that Leone had 10 hours of footage, from that a 6 hour-2 volume film was edited. Then after "long fights" they ended up with a 4hr 15min cut (likely the cut in OP or close to it). That version was eventually whittled down the one we know today.
