OMG! T-nation got something right!

Actually I would buy that and agree to that. An elevated pushup is more dificult than a normal one, an explosive one is to, same goes for a handstand variation and a one armed. Ading weight is just another way to make it more dificult and usefull. It sure as hell doesnt become a benchpres, no matter how much weight I throw on...;)

Then this is really an argument based on semantics. One side says body weight means only body as weight, the other says particular types of exercises and any of their weighted derivatives. The latter kind of causes a problem though. Where does something like a squat fit in? There are body weight squats and power lifting squats. Both pretty much follow the same motion. The difference is in the added weight.

Obviously if you want to be nitpicky a bw excersice perhaps -can- be considered to only qualify if you only are using your body weight. But that definition serve no real purpose.

The reason I would choose a pushup with aded weight instead of a benchpress is that I would feel it would give me diferent benefits. Same would go with one leged bw squats with extra weight, instead of powerlifting squats.

And by the way I wouldnt say that "the diference being the added weight" but rather (also) the balance and body control required for advanced bw movements.

I second this. I believe he felt that if he tried to sound smart, people wouldn't see the absurdity of his arguments. That, and I really don't think he read the article before he started posting.

I wish i had some rings to train on.

entropy, using big words doesnt change the fact that you are full of shit, and fucking annoying at that.

i probably wont be able to reply to whatever ridiculous response you post, because ill be doing some bodyweight squats with 225 pounds on my back, then onto some bodyweight goodmornings with 155 lbs on my back....

btw, "look at the big brains on brad" is a line from pulp fiction, one of the finest movies ever, you dolt...

I am sure entrophy made some great points, which i would read if his av didnt give me a headache.

colinm - 225lbs on your back? female? nude pics?

Holy shit! Personal foul!

Where's the love, fellas?

Speaking of which, I'm sorry I upset you ENTROPY. I still can't understand how my post was ironic, but remember to explain it to me in short words so I can comprehend what your point is. It will also be a good exercise in not writing like a dumbass.

This approach is intellectually dishonest since the strength adaptation issue is very easily remedied by adding progressively heavier weight to the movements.

Is that the only way to measure progress? What about amount of work done undr a certain period of time? What about bar speed? Lets not forget adding reps to a weight you once did for x number of reps.

Yea i can only stand reading Ian King's articals now...and too bad Charlie Francis stoped writting for them!

I know more words than Entropy, and I still don't agree with him.

That little monkey Sean nailed it; this is another one for semantics.

I must say, I studied semantics, and appreciated it's potential value, but sometimes, I almost felt like it was the academician's ultimate con:

Bookworm #1: "Let's use language to argue about language."
Bookworm #2: "But then we'll have to argue over the means of our argument."
Bookworm #1: "And?"
Bookworm #2: "We'll never stop arguing."
Bookworm #1: "Come with me, grasshopper, and you'll never go hungry again."

Naaaa. I like him.
And I think for the most part we agree.

Yes we do.

As mentioned in one of our prior encounters,

But on a more serious note, I really have no problem with ENTROPY. I'm sure he does have valuable insight into weightlifting. I just got a kick out of the way he debates, and felt like I needed to share.
