Olympic Booing

I love them. But they certainly don't show my favorite sports as consistently as say swimming.

This is one of my issues with the Olympic viewing experience as well.

Sometimes I want to see some fucking archery or taekwondo and they just don't show that shit.

We get it all in Britain, it's a huge first world problem to try and watch everything.

Really? Here it's like you just get what's being broadcast at that time. If the network decides they want to show swimming, you're watching swimming.

There's about 8-10 on the tv (BBC) you can watch right now and even more on the website.

It's fucking Brazil. The same country that was using laser pointers and hitting the cage with them the first time Aldo fought there.

Traditionally Olympics have been considered, while competitive, in the spirit of international unity. No matter what conflicts are occurring between nations, the athletes come together in good sportsmanship and respect. The fans cheer their favorite athletes while respecting all athletes competing.

That doesn't seem to be the case during this Olympics. This Olympics is said to have more booing from the crowd than any previous Olympics. What's going on? Has the Olympics run its course as a model for international unity and respect?

Have you watched UFC events in Brazil? They like to boo foreigners there

Yes, I know they boo a lot. I was hoping for better at the Olympics. But that article explained it as kind of a cultural phenomena that is not meant to be malicious. It's more like how they feel engaged in the theatrics of the event.

It's kind of like if you went to a movie in a predominately black neighborhood and you were like, "Why is everyone talking at the screen? so rude." But really it's a cultural thing and you would be the odd one for not engaging in the film in such a way.

As an European, I dont know some things about culture in different parts of US. But what do you mean with "talking at the screen"? Sorry for stupid question, but it got my interest

Ha. In America many black people will often become very engaged in the movies and will yell at the screen like "Get outta there! You're gonna get killed!!!" It's not like all black people do it at every movie, but if you are at a theater in a mostly black neighborhood, the theater is usually very loud with people shouting at the screen.

cliffs: random shit we think is more important than letting other assholes enjoy the movie they paid for.

Usually a USA chant irritates me in most contexts. But not in the Olympics. That's what you do? You root for the athletes in your nation. If you look in the crowd all of them are dressed in the color of their flags. But you can celebrate and cheer for your country without booing other countries.

Yeah I remember the whole "Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi oi oi" we thought was really clever round 2000.

Yeah I'm taping the finals for wrestling. My middle school was one of the few local middle schools that had a wrestling program. I regret so much not doing wrestling. I could have done it all the way up through HS. But I didn't and as a result, I don't understand the nuances, so watching it can be a little dull for me. Sometimes they score points and I'm totally confused as to why they scored the point!

If you want to see something funny in regards to wrestling and what you're talking about, go to Jordan Burroughs' instagram page and look at any of the comments in his photos. Its filled with Iranians saying Yazdani Charati is going to beat the hell out of him (he's not btw).
