Traditionally Olympics have been considered, while competitive, in the spirit of international unity. No matter what conflicts are occurring between nations, the athletes come together in good sportsmanship and respect. The fans cheer their favorite athletes while respecting all athletes competing. That doesn't seem to be the case during this Olympics. This Olympics is said to have more booing from the crowd than any previous Olympics. What's going on? Has the Olympics run its course as a model for international unity and respect?
A) It's a largely Brazilian crowd. Think of a typical soccer match or UFC event that's held there. It's been pretty respectful, comparatively. B) The Russian doping scandal has certainly factored into this as well. That whole team has been viewed poorly in the court of public opinion, and it shows.
Any examples? The only athletes I've heard of getting booed were the Russian Athletes who have previously tested positive for PED's and were allowed to participate by the IOC... Am I getting that story right?
Yes a lot of the dopers are being boo'ed, and I'm not even displeased with it. But actually Americans are repeatedly being boo'ed repeatedly.
Do you have a cable subscription? Like Xfinity? If so, you can stream other events on the NBC Sports app. I was watching Judo replays last night. Pretty cool. Looking forward to watching 6 hrs of Wrestling... lol
Which sports are you mainly interested in? Only time I'll watch the Olympics is for the ice hockey in the winter games. Can't think of anything in the summer games I'd care to watch.
Yes. But it's been terrible. Everyday I go under category: Rio Olympics -> Boxing. And despite several quarterfinals having already been fought, there is still nothing there yet. And they keep putting spoilers. Like when I went under Judo it will have like 65kg finals and then when you click it to watch it will show the summary and say something like "Brazil wins the gold." And then I'm like, "Well shit."
Huh, looks like they finally got rid of the headgear this year. I tried watching some boxing last Olympics, but every fight going to a decision got boring to me.
Wrestling will be good too @NHB7 I'm a fan of all of those, and gymnastics and track. So i watch most of the olympics myself except synchronized diving or swimming. I'll watch someone swim fast but fuck i don't care if you can lift your leg and twirl like an underwater seahorse ballerina.
Yeah I'm taping the finals for wrestling. My middle school was one of the few local middle schools that had a wrestling program. I regret so much not doing wrestling. I could have done it all the way up through HS. But I didn't and as a result, I don't understand the nuances, so watching it can be a little dull for me. Sometimes they score points and I'm totally confused as to why they scored the point!
In FS, it's about back exposure; back facing the ground after it breaks a 90 degree perpendicular to the floor line (2pts), holding for a near fall is an extra point, takedowns are scored differently now to improve action and defense. 2 points for a reversal. 1 pt takedown where opponent bails to stomach, can't remember what it is for taking a guy down to his ass or back now as they changed the rules. 5point throw ends the match i believe now instead of the round, and i think its an 8 or 10pt mercy rule.
You must be in the wrong tab. You're probably under "Highlights". There's not a description of the clips under the Replay section, just the sport and day. I'm looking at the App on my phone right now under "Replays" and I see the following Tuesday Day 4 Boxing Evening - 1.5 Hours Day 4 Boxing Morning - 1.5 Hours Monday Day 3 Boxing Evening - 3 Hours Day 3 Boxing Morning - 3 Hours Sunday Day 2 Boxing Evening - 2.5 Hours Day 2 Boxing Morning - 2.5 Hours Judo is in the same format, except the Replays are listed by weight category. The App seems to work well in this regard.
