This is the problem of creating a culture of undeserved title shots. You have guys calling and wanting a TS with no regards to the ranking. The point of rankings is a provide a queue and fighters know their place in line. Olivera is 3-3 his last 6 fights while Arman is 5-0, #1 contender and already beat Olivera.

you mean the culture of undeserved title shots that has literally been going on for decades? do you guys even watch UFC or what?

Calm down, Justin. I know you were champ not that long ago but that's a lot of chances in a row. Lost a title shot, won one fight, lost an eliminator, won one fight, lost a title shot, won one fight...

*edit
Actually, speaking of Justin, imagine he wins the interim? That means that even if Topuria isn't ready yet, they'll just go to Charles as the first contender over Arman, considering the past win. Arman is out of the title scene til at least 2027. Guy better hope Paddy wins just so he can convince SOMEONE in the UFC's booking team that the grappling matchup would be interesting

I mean, it's llike there are too many people in position to challenge for the title at lightweight right now. The winner of Paddy vs Geathje and Arman would be ahead of the winner of Max vs Charles. But other than those, Hooker, Gamrot, Fiziev, Moicano, Chandler and Dariush aren't ever getting to a title shot again and that's like half the rankings. Only other guy on the rise in the rankings right now are BSD and Grant Dawson.

I could see the winner of the BMF fight sitting out for a year to get their shot considering whoever win will be popular enough for the UFC to allow it.
The way I see the lightweight title picture going foreward looks something like this.
1. Paddy vs Justin
2. Max vs Charles
3. Probably a stay busy fight for Arman against somebody like BSD or Dawson
4. Ilia vs winner of Paddy/Justin
5. Ilia vs Arman
6. BMF vs winner of that

Imagine if guys like Arman, Charles, Paddy, Max, and Justin were all in some sort of line to fight for the title, instead of them all being jockeyed around "Just one more win and it's my shot" territory

Bunch of dudes making way too much money arguing instead of fighting

well yeah, because now the fighters have leverage. isn't that what everybody wanted? how's that shit turning out? lmao
What? No they don't? This is a business further using it's own leverage to benefit the fighters it wants to, not those fighters having leverage.

If it was leverage based on merit (the thing fans should actually want, not just blind leverage), then a guy who has won every fight in front of him could push the UFC's hand into actually booking him for the title. If you're suggesting that fighters have leverage, why isn't the FW champ and longtime company man defending against the guys he wanted to? Cuz they don't.

the guys who are currently ducking fights and STILL have belts definitely have some kind of leverage. Jon Jones definitely had some kind of leverage. yeah, Joe Schmo doesn't have shit, but these guys who are currently cherry picking when/where/and who they fought are definitely leveraging something. otherwise why is UFC not immediately stripping them and punishing them?
