I mean I don’t find anything about the PS5 Pro exciting. And any metaphorical hard-on that I would have had for it would have gone completely flaccid after that price reveal.
It doesn't seem to have impressed the community, either. The official reveal trailer is the most disliked in Playstation launch history on YouTube. It stands at 242K dislikes to 59K likes. From the comments, the price is clearly the #1 object of ire.

Yea people are really pissed about the price. I guarantee it still sells out day 1. I remember the PS portal being called DOA and it sells out all the time and did much better than even Sony expected.

Either way even the PS4 Pro ended up with only about 20% of the overall PS4 buys I expect this to do less than that but I'm sure Sony expects that as well.

The thing they need to really stop is releasing PS5 exclusives that look like they could have been on the ps4. Rise Of the Ronin was highly disappointing they didn’t even utilize the dual sense haptic feedback.

If I was Playstation, I would have talked Rockstar into providing a trailer for GTAVI along with the PS5 Pro showcase.

I'm inclined to agree, although I don't know how many units Sony is making, probably not that many, even if they could, but not because I think supply will factor to heavily into this. Rather, I think it's because the value of the console relative to PC hardware is still so strong.

I wasn't sure off the top of my head whether or not it offered a better value relative to the PS5/XSX at launch, I had to go check. It doesn't. The 6700 XT was $479 MSRP at launch (PS5 analogue), and the 7700 XT was $449 MSRP at launch (PS5 Pro analogue). Meanwhile, most of the other components are the same, but they've gotten cheaper on the PC market with time (i.e. SSD). So even if there wasn't the crypto-COVID bubble of 2020, it wouldn't be as strong a value now as the PS5 was then-- not that PS5 was easy to get for the first year. Nevertheless, it's still giving you more than a PC for the same money. But not by much, anymore. That gap with the PS5/XSX in 2020 was enormous. Equivalent PCs were more than double the cost. Now it's incredibly narrow.

I couldn't have found a prebuilt sale of the same caliber anywhere close to $500 (or $400) in 2020. Today, I look at the past month on /bpcs, and there are a handful of Ryzen 5 7600 + RTX 4060 Ti + 16GB RAM + 1TB SSD prebuilts that went on sale for under $750.

Two titles will be major sellers for PS5-Pro, which would be major-console sellers.

GTA6 @60FPS.
RDR2 @60FPS.

If I were Sony, I'd be in close communication with Rockstar about having details of their plans of ever releasing a PS5-Pro edition for RDR2 (possibly a timed exclusive), as well as the performance benchmarks for GTA6.
100 for GTA6 but I'm in the ship-has-sailed camp for RDR2, as far as 'major sellers'. Is there more audience for Arthur and Co whatever the FPS other than diehards having another playthrough? Maybe I'm out of touch on this one.

Other way around for SSDs, pricing has been a lot higher on the enterprise side for for most of the past year unfortunately.

But otherwise spot on, PS5 Pro pricing is much closer to break even (or slightly over) than a traditional console launch.

I doubt Sony is losing any money on these consoles. Phil Spencer hinted in one interview that the subsidizing model just doesn't make sense anymore.

It was unimpressive because they showed off already amazingly optimized first party games. Really weird decision.
Looks like DF enjoyed the improvements from the Pro. If anyone remembers this exact DF member was saying things like "Why do we even need the Pro?".

He’s being attacked for this lmao. I don’t know why people want this to fail. Mark Cerny had done a good job so far so I trust he isn’t selling his soul.

Rumors coming in strong for a State of Play on the 24th of this month. That’s just two days before the preorder of the Pro goes live so chances are they’ll try to show off more games taking advantage of the upgraded hardware. Not sure if they’ll be first party stuff sadly but I do expect something from Capcom like RE9 or Pragmata. I teaser for GoT 2 would be nice though. Realistically what do you guys expect to see?

My only reasoning for why they did that is because they are waiting for TGS (when preorders start) to show off their upcoming games. Most likely GOT2. I can imagine they'll have some sort of small DLC similar to what they did with GOW\TLOU2 and the rogue modes. Maybe something for Spiderman 2 (Venom DLC?).

I'm not surprised about people attacking the guy. The whole thing right now seems to be to attack Sony for the Pro. Having DF go against the grain kind of kills anyone's argument against the Pro. Especially when DF was kind of against the pro to begin with. Instead of these people acknowledging that maybe they were wrong it's easier to just attack the source.

They did the same thing when devs tried to come out against the Series S and say it was to little ram. People were literally on twitter doubting professional developers and their knowledge of game development.

I don't care about the enterprise side of things, I'm talking about prices about similarly classed SSDs to consumers. For example, the best price would have been around $90 in September-2020:

Meanwhile, presently, you can find many SSDs in this class in the $50-$60 range. Probably the bestseller:

I thought this video was funny.

Lmao, this was great. Thanks for sharing. I think that is Destin. No way does he ask this question if Microsoft decided to build a Pro version of their console. He's got a reputation on Twitter for being a big Xbox fanboy. That makes it even more funny when it looks like his souls got sucked out.

It's going to be impossible to come close if building, but not if buying a prebuilt. That's the issue. The cheapest form of entry at this performance point isn't building, and it hasn't been for nearly a decade, now. Ledbetter offers the 4070 most likely because the 7700 XT (the 27WP analogue to the PS5 Pro) lies in a performance space between the 4060 Ti and 4070, and DF usually affords a 30% advantage to the console on paper.

If one looks at 4070's the sale prices we've been seeing is in the $900 range, the non-sale entry point is around $1100.

*Edit* For reference since I know a lot of the console players don't normally look at this stuff, but here is a 2024 Techspot roundup showing relative performance in terms of pure rasterization between the AMD 7700 XT (our PS5 Pro analogue) and both the RTX 4070 & RTX 4060 Ti. As one can see, it's performs more closely to the 4060 Ti in this suite than the 4070. However, know the PS5 Pro GPU ups the WP count from 27 to 30 versus the 7700 XT:

Yea he's a huge Xbox guy. He has been going after them a bit lately though with their 3rd party moves and questioning the overall strategy.
