Zube breaks down why PSP hits the spot for him and that it's misunderstood by many as a lacklustre Sony gaming device when it's in fact a home-run Sony gaming extension:
Why PlayStation Portal Is The Perfect Device For Me:
• First what this device is, it’s an accessory to PS5, not a dedicated gaming device like Steam Deck, Switch or ROG Ally! It doesn’t run games on device! It’s crazy how misinformed, bias and ignorant people are. PlayStation: "PlayStation Portal Remote Player is a purpose-built device dedicated to delivering an incredible Remote Play experience. That means you can turn it on, press a button to connect to your PS5 console and get right to playing with remarkable speed."
• What people don't understand is PlayStation doesn't have to develop anything for this device in terms of game development, why waste 2 SKU target/resources when you have an underpowered system compared to PS5, Sony PlayStation thankfully know what they are doing. I and many others don't want 2 SKUs just add to development time and waste resources.
• Sometimes you want to rest and play and not be too focused on what your playing, you could play while watching something in the background and playing at the same time. Relax on the couch and play and not play on the big screen.
• DualSense for me is a game changer and for it to be on Remote Play is a game changer again crucial part of PlayStation Portal. This is the most important part for me and why I’m buying one day 1!
• You can take the device with you anywhere, PlayStation Link will work only in the same Wi-Fi network but I'm ok with that. I can take most of the experience with me on the go and play games even when you are out.
• I can complete more trophies, due to the portability of the device. I don’t need to dedicate specific time to play and game.
• Lack of Bluetooth doesn't concern me at all, again people just like to criticise, Bluetooth has lots of latency for gaming purposes, hence why PlayStation has again made specific Audio devices for PlayStation Portal that are intended for gaming.
• The only downside for me for PlayStation Portal is it's not OLED or 120Hz that's all, apart from that I think it's a near perfect device.
• I understand this device is not meant for everyone (Sony didn’t market it a sole gaming device) and some do not like what it provides, people wanted a dedicated device but as explained above PlayStation should never do this. As I tweeted before I’ll never force anyone to buy something they don’t find value in, on the other hand don’t force me and tell me it’s a not worth it or its just a Remote Play device. Also some of the people who wanted this to be PS Vita 2, they didn’t support it nor cared about a portable PlayStation system.
• Lastly, I can play more games, more often, even complete them quicker and more due to convenience. I think the price is reasonable and a price point that most can buy into. I’m so happy this device exists. I have always wanted a dedicated Remote Play device from PlayStation!
