No one cares
Saw quite a grumbling last night amongst the gaming community with speculation that ER invasions are flipping the script – co-op now being a requisite condition. None of us are strangers to soloists dc'ing despite the practice resetting invasion timeout but I think that's precisely what From wishes to remedy. Earlier and possibly related, saw something about ER being 'easier' from what the studio has commented re: ER's higher level of gamer accessibility but, I'm not 100 on what's what right now. I want this journey to be equal parts pain and pride, art and agony. Not everyone can scale Everest – shall we demo a bit off the top then?
PS5 for sure. I like the haptics and trophiesAre you guys planning on getting this for pc or console ? @jojoRed @GtehMVP @SwamiLeoni @Valhoven @Zazen @Nova44 @method115
It seems like theyre succumbing a bit to these journalists crying for an easy mode.Saw quite a grumbling last night amongst the gaming community with speculation that ER invasions are flipping the script – co-op now being a requisite condition. I could see them changing the system: Allowing for invasions of solo players: 4 v 4 PVP, but not in the first release. too much testing will have to be done and I doubt Fromsolft would want to shoehorn it in there before release and have a never-ending chase of trying to balance the pvp system with changes, buffs, and nerfs. The recent Gamescom reveal for co-op being a conditional to queue for invasion seems to have unsurprisingly split the Soulsborne community.
The gripe at heart is one of players not wanting to seek someone out so that they in turn can enter into PvP, duellist play. I've no idea how this plays out in ER with vP now being a minimum of 4x4 and fight-club etiquette aside, most players either won't know or care to observe the honour code of Estus, anti-gank et cetera. And if ER has a dried finger equivalent, confusion on all of the above ramps up.
Assuming no drawing-board overhaul from From, the two big camps players fall into that I've observed are the opt-ins versus the opt-outs – names I'm making up for us here in summary.
Opt-outs are hoping for a PvEvP system that defaults protag to online play (for optional co-op) whereupon you've access to an inexpensive consumable or inexhaustible item that removes or temporarily shields you from invasion dynamics once teaming up (think burning effigies à la SotFS); opt-ins, conversely and being the motlier camp between the two, hope for a PvE system that either defaults protag to offline play or then requires their having to sign in and learn of, activate, and approve of invasion dynamics before accessing co-op, I presume.
One argument I'll relay is a FOMO line of thought where players who categorically avoid PvP might actually end up liking the pucker factor of it in ER (not speaking to griefing, twinks), or then those who will complete a playthrough without having known there was this aspect of the title at all. I think all of us have discovered or learnt things in an NG+4 for the first time and been thoroughly impressed at From's signature depth.
Sorry for length.
This remark reminds me of the Hollow Arena expansion that came to Souls III with duel, brawl modes.but also IIRC. There is also going to be a social hub for matchmaking. I wonder if that hub will focus more on traditional PVP, while the invasion system in-game focuses more as the invader serving as an obstacle on top of the environment.
And how can they not be, no? Worlds just dripping in lore and challenge. I like PvP for the most part but it's always been a peripheral rather than focus (without dedicated save slots for builds, changing up rings, off-hand set-up etc. real quick always sucked); heaps of players however spend more time arguing over and building for covenant play than getting lost, reading flavour text, and embarking on the greater journey all that MP is set within. To each his own though – it must be said.I've honestly never been a fan of invasions. From games have always been a solo experience for me.
I agree that gamers are overwhelmingly nostalgic, but in this case I think the complaint is that rather than solving PVP issues That other souls games had, they eliminated features that we’re not main complaints at all. Was there really anyone who was demanding they remove solo invasions from souls? This remark reminds me of the Hollow Arena expansion that came to Souls III with duel, brawl modes.
I am super excited for ER and not 'concerned', to say, but to your other comment on PvP not having a long life if all these parameters end up being the case, I agree with that.
I think as gamers, we're barbarically nostalgic. There are still cats probably waxing poetic about the Prepare to Die edition for the original Souls. Despite criticism within our Miyazakian niche coming from a place of deep appreciation and conservatorship, so many players just pummel From and nitpick, trying ultimately to change them rather than change with them.
Wait why would cats give a fuck about Dark Souls, they don't even have opposable thumbs, they can't playThis remark reminds me of the Hollow Arena expansion that came to Souls III with duel, brawl modes.

It looks as though he came back under another account to take a jab at me in the Sports Bar for laughing at his untimely demise.

Yeah, that time was me, lol. He was called YouDeserveIt, iirc. Vendetta accounts will always meet the reaper. Touch the goblet, newcomer – just a tap...It looks as though he came back under another account to take a jab at me in the Sports Bar for laughing at his untimely demise.

Right there with you. I'd happily do it if it was a group of us on here invading each other, but i hate when i defeat a boss and then i'm farming souls and some lagging douche canoe invades and kills me.
