Multiplat Official DOOM ETERNAL Discussion

It’s a fluid motion that shouldn’t involve any button holding, just tapping.

Fire, quick swap, fire, quick swap.

Even the scope on the Heavy Cannon doesn’t need a full hold. Just tap the alt fire to bring it up briefly and fire, then quick swap.
This is the video I was thinking of. It's short and he's supposed to be one of the better console players around.

Edit - After watching it again, you have to tap R1+R2 together if you are using Rockets with Remote Detonate but you have to release L2 in between shots if you use Lock On Burst. I loved Remote Detonation in 2016 so I'll probably stick with the first option if I can pull it off.

Haha I’m not brave enough to quick swap the rocket launcher. The bread and butter for most players is going to be super shotty and ballista. Easy to master and absolutely melts.

I haven't found those weapons yet but good to know.

He also mentions comboing sticky bombs and precision bolt, both of which I have now so I should start practicing with that.

Wait, there's no self damage in Eternal, is there? I haven't noticed any yet and I normally blow myself up a few times in the first mission of 2016 before I get the suit upgraded enough.

There is from environment elements and things like the rocket launcher. Not as pronounced as 2016 though.

So what is your personal loop? What sorts of things do you do automatically? Like I assume it's generally a good idea to flame belch the last enemy of every room before killing them.

And do you watch your HUD constantly or wait for the low ammo warning to chainsaw?

If I see a group it’s an automatic flame belch then grenade. Blood Punch against any heavy. Ice grenade/belch/Blood Punch heavies and quick swap them into bolivian. Random chainsaws on smalls. Even if you run out the last pip automatically regens.

Just belch, belch, belch and invest in keeping the CD down.

I almost never look at my HUD. Not enough time lol. If my ability isn’t available I just move to something else. They do have the option to center it in the middle of your screen.

Pry gonna play some on the Deck tonight lol.

Excellent thanks! Exactly what I'm looking for.

You should, either this or 2016. They're too fun not to play.

Yeah couldn’t help myself lol. Made it up to the Cultist Base, hard getting used to controller again. I was rolling pretty well but lost five lives between the Slayer Gate and final encounter.

Shame from my ripping and tearing ancestors.

Nice. Do you play the same way on controller or do you have to change anything?

And as far as movement, do you double jump around heavies or clusters of enemies until you kill them or do you more hit and run your way around the arena?

Only thing I change is inverted vertical aiming. Standard button mapping works fine for me.

Really just depends on the situation. I use air control as one of my perks so I do like to stay in the air a fair amount. Now, depending on the size of the heavy it’s impossible for me to lol but if there are jump pads or bars to swing off of I’m constantly using those as I run around.

My favorite perks are Air Control and Blood Fueled. Get more control of the Slayer in air and get speed boosts after every glory kill. Makes it hard to hit you. Aside from learning the combat dance I’d say constant movement is the most important part of survival.

“Hesitation is defeat” lol

Thanks. Yeah those are my first two perks as well. I didn't use Air Control in 2016 but it seems almost mandatory in this game, especially with all the platforming and wall jumps. Blood Fueled is great in both games but is probably more useful here... see a staggered enemy, dash in for the glory kill and Blood Fuel your way out of there. I still need to unlock "refill dash on glory kills" which will help even more.

You do any bunny hopping? I like using the jump pads as much as possible but my movement needs improvement (I mostly panic hit and run). I see people kiting around enemies in the air and I'd like to figure out how to do it.

Arbalest or destroyer blade? Just got the ballista and not sure what to pick.

No not at all. I’m not that advanced of a player lol.

I like the Arbalest but rarely use it. The regular blast while quick swapping is basically all I use.

I was playing last night and went to eat something. Since AMD released an update for my GPU, I figured I would install it while I ate. Restarted the PC and suddenly lost all sound to my TV.

So I tried rolling back the software but that didn't work. Then I spent the rest of the night trying every possible solution I could find online but nothing worked and everything looked normal in the device manager and other sound settings. I was getting really upset.

Figured my weekend of Eternal was shot or I would have to wear headphones with a 20 foot extension cord just to play. That would suck! So I shutdown the PC and went to sleep. Got up early this morning, started it up and the sound worked. I have no idea why but I don't care, it's a miracle! What a pain in the ass.

I'm stuck in the fifth mission, on the fight to get the yellow key for the giant gore nest. It's the last wave with all the heavies that keeps getting me.

How do you kill dread knights quickly?

Low Health

Low Ammo

Insufficient Fuel

Easy to tell from the comments who's played platformers and arena shooters and who hasn't. Lol.
