So I’ve been playing a bonespear necro and am level 42 but only just realized I’ve apparently been playing wrong. I’ve been going around with my posse of minions and just read that I’m supposed to be “sacrificing” them as part of this build. How? Why?

There's no "wrong" way to play this game.

There are plenty of people who have spec'd out their builds and make recommendations on what they believe to be effective, but in the end you decide what works for you.

It looks like a lot of commitment and a lot to learn lol

It starts off really slow and slowly introduces you to new stuff that you can use if you want but don't need to. If you choose not to, you're missing out.

@Contempt is spot on. The game is really easy to get into, and there are plenty of guides to help you get started. At the end of the day though, you get out of it whatever you decide you want to put into it. The lower difficulties will not require you to spend much time playing around with specific builds.

You’re fine. I played a Bone Spear/minion hybrid up until level 94 through WT4 and level 50 plus Nightmare dungeons. Sacrifice your golem, keep your skeletal mages for resource generation and warriors for a meat shield and get some gear that gives your minions beteeen 30-50% extra life and have fun.

People are telling you to sacrifice your minions because to be fully optimized at the end game when your level 100, it becomes necessary to sacrifice them for the bonuses and skill points. Most players won’t touch the content that they’re referencing anyways, so just do what you want to do.

Also if you wanna do some t4 low lvl nm dungeons for better loots lets us know
Just wanted to give a shoutout to @steeldragon for helping me unlock wt4 and run through some wt4 nightmare dungeons.

Those runs helped me score some nice ancestral weapons and now my Rogue is well equipped to take on the level 73+ mobs and bosses on WT4. I was able to some of those dungeons on my own, even though I'm still just at level 66.

Thanks again.

If anyone wants to add me, my full battle.net ID is mcubed #11311

I'd say up until 50 that is true, but at least for Sorc if you have a bad build you will seriously struggle when you attempt the capstone dungeon or start doing nightmare at 50+.

I had to completely rework my build that previously had me easily coast through the entire game and beat Lilith first try, but when I attempted the capstone dungeon I died like 8 times to just random mobs and previous to the capstone dungeon I had died less than 8 times going from 1-50. (and most of those were attempting to clear Kor Dragan stronghold solo while underleveled/geared)

Ya naw there is no wrong way to play. Play how you want or whatever you are having fun with playing. Obviously in games like diablo there will be builds that are better than others. For me personally. I play what's the most fun for me in trying to get my build i decided to play to work for me

I sacrificed my goons because they seemed to be dying immediately anyways and the sacrifice bonuses were better than a gang of one hitter quitters.

People were probably getting tired of me saying, "To me my X-Men", every time I encountered anything anyways.

Can you explain sacrificing minions to me?

1. how do you do it?
2. When do you do it?
3. What does it do?

It's really not that complicated. Go to the book of the dead when you go over to pick the bonuses for the minions go all the way to the right should tell you what bonuses you will get for sacrificing the different types of minions. You can do it as soon you get the book of the dead so anytime

Can the golem actually tank or it gets one ahotted as well

My Minions and golem don't. Really get one shotted at the moment. Using the blood golem with reaper skeletons n ice mage skeletons. Have the unique armor that gives me a shit ton of thorns n other pieces of armor that lets my Minions get a percentage of my thorns

I might snag it when the wife is done with FFXVI

I was able to complete the first capstone dungeon. I’m now lvl 51 with access to WT3. Not really sure where to go from here. I think I might try to get the rest of the Lillith statues.

Depending on your gear/class, you (may) struggle for a bit when you first get into Nightmare. I had to rework my spec and did exactly what you mentioned (farmed all of the lilith statues) and the third tier of renown in every zone (to have all the skill points) before fully committing to T3, pretty sure I was level 53 when I finished.

Out of curiosity... what's the highest item level you guys have seen? I've only seen up to 818 (a yellow crossbow) so far.

There's no level grinding?

I haven't made it to end game yet so not sure what happens at that point. Just doing the story though I haven't had to grind levels we've been slowly making our way through it and my son is garbage at this game.

There's no level grinding?

I am guessing he means to him it’s not really grindy because of how he’s playing it. The most casual of gamers aren’t aiming for level 100. Most gamers haven’t even finished the campaign supposedly. So if people are just casually doing all the side quests and getting all their renown at WT1 then it might not be that grindy?
