How often are you guys tossing aspects on Rares? Considering the drop rate for those are much higher than Legendaries, it’s easy to assume you’d have better rolls.
No that's not correct. It's a weapon so you can apply any aspects that CAN go into a weapon. Defensive aspects cannot be applied to a weapon. It's not an ancestral limitation. If you hover over the aspect card you can see what the aspect can be applied to (1H, 2H weapon, chest armor, gloves, etc..). The only other reason you aren't able to apply an aspect is you do have the crafting material necessary to apply the aspect (show in the lower left corner when you attempt to apply the aspect).
You bitch a lot about things that are actually "user/player error".

Dude, I am not the only one seeing this. There are a bunch of people posting this all over the place. I have heaps of materials and millions of gold. Google: "‘This item cannot have Aspects imprinted on it.’"
Some have said it's a bug, some have said it's intentional. Either way, they should fix that shit if it's not intentional.

It's obviously a bug or a glitch but you didn't take that point of view. You assumed that you couldn't imprint a non-ancestral aspect into a ancestral item. You could have grabbed another ancestral item and tried to imprint the same or different aspect (just putting into the menu to see if it was possible not actually imprint it) and you would have realized the discrepancy and then looked it up and realized it was a bug. You didn't do that. you simply just assumed you can't imprint based the class of the item and cussed out Blizzard.
I assumed that because there were a bunch of people in multiple threads on multiple sites stating that this was how it works. Funny that.
It only told me that I couldn't imprint it when I hit the button to do the imprint.
So... now I'm lvl 60, face rolling all the content at WT3 that I've seen... and I can't do the next capstone dungeon till lvl 70? WTF? This is just going to be a boring, pointless grind for the next 10 levels. Thanks Blizzard :-(
I bet its not even a bug and you probably tried to imprint a unique item. lol.
I mean you posted this:
Which was completely incorrect cause you can challenge any capstone dungeon after beating the game and aftermath missions.
You have a tendency to jump to conclusions without checking or confirming anything.

However-- the standard/Sacred/Ancestral barometer is not necessarily an indication of how good the aspect is. I look more at where the stat is in the min/max range.
Aspects aren't affected by being standard/sacred/ancestral at all except for the mat cost of applying them to the same tier items (standard/sacred aspects cost more mats to apply to an ancestral item), but they don't have higher rolls or higher roll ranges. I have a Legendary Aspect of Fortune that is a perfect roll (20/20%) and I also have a sacred one (16/20%) and an ancestral one (19/20%), the only difference between the 3 is the Ancestral only costs 4 Abstruse sigils and 32k gold to apply to an ancestral item, the sacred costs 18 veiled crystals, 6 Abstruse Sigils and 27k and the normal one costs 30 crystals, 12 Abstruse Sigils and 66k.
Materials costs are for the most part meaningless as I have hundreds of Sigils and thousands of crystals, 66k gold is also nothing... even if you had none of the mats, you could get enough crystals and sigils to imprint a few items from one helltide.
As far as I know the only exception to this is that there a few sigils that can roll higher ranges but its affected by level, not by being legendary/sacred/ancestral.
I'm not sure about what class you are playing but for Sorc there are some aspects that even at 90 I've only seen a handful of times (Conceited, Frostblitz, Disobedience) and you're really hurting yourself by only saving them if they're ancestral, as two of those I've never even seen on an ancestral item.
But isn't converting the item to an aspect way more expensive for an ancestral? its around 400K+ when I do it. When I was hoarding aspects (everytime i found a maxed out one) i would convert them and it was mildly displeasing when it was an ancestral since I was semi-tight on money. Wanted to save all my gold for re-rolling affixes.

Thats just another argument against doing what he is doing (only keeping ancestral items/aspects), I personally don't care what the item type is for aspects, I save 2 of each aspect with the highest rolls I can find (regardless of legendary/sacred/ancestral) and either vendor or salvage the rest.
No you keep the ones with the best stats. Ancestral aspect can roll with much better stats but that's not always true. The range could be the same but the actual value could be lower than regular aspects so you compare them and keep the one that is better. Arguably lower tier aspects are cheaper to imprint so if you had two aspects with the same roll and need to get rid of one (cause your stash is full) you keep the lower quality one. Imprinting a normal aspect into a ancestral item will not downgrade it.
Was thinking of buying this but reading a single page of this thread has dissuaded me
It looks like a lot of commitment and a lot to learn lolWhy? It's a legitimately good game. Really fun and worth the purchase.
