Multiplat Official Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Discussion

Was juuuust about to quit my second run and move on. Then it finally opened up with all these character side quests. Currently in the big tower taking care of Maelle's mission. It's like a whole new game now. Got some awesome new picto's that really beef the party up, that fat guy can finally dive underwater(albeit I was little disappointed that all those spots are just item grabs), and I'm taking on the big boys on the map.
This game just keeps on giving.

Yeah, those underwater spots are a little deceiving, similar to some portals that only lead to a static place where you can pick up one or two items.

This is my first (and will be my only) run. I was a little surprised how I got my ass kicked almost everywhere when I started act 3, but I'm around level 75 now and I'm starting to wrap things up, can't find any more story area's besides the return to Lumiere, so I think I squeezed most of the juice out of the game.

Just made it to Act III and feeling a little overwhelmed. Wrapped up Act III pretty confident I had done most of the content available, and now so much has opened I have no idea where to even start. Good problem to have. Think I may just go right back to the beginning and start looking for things to break and any enemies I may have skipped since they were to hard at the time.

Making some good progress in Act III, but still feel aimless. Got some pretty great weapon upgrades/pictos and starting to really ratchet up my damage output. Went from hitting regularly around 100k~200k with a some highs around 600k, to cranking it up past 3mil. Pretty far off from end game numbers since I've seen screens of people going past 1bil.

Was feeling pretty confident and in my roamings.foind Simon, which I hadnt read much about, but knew he was a secret suped up boss. Felt pretty confident and took out his phase 1 after a few tries. Then in phase 2 rolls out some crazy combos and got absolutely demolished. Think I'll come back later after I got a few pictos leveled up that I think will add a huge damage boost. Just found Glass Canon and Confident Fighter, and still hunting down Augmented Counter III.

He is the hardest boss in the game. He has more tricks up his sleeve too. There are probably three bosses in act 3 that are good challenges to do before him.

I think the entirety of act 3 is supposed to be optional because the final boss is a total cake walk if you can take down the harder bosses, especially Simon.

That's pretty much what I figured. Not sure if I'm going to do a NG+ run, or just cap it off. Definitely want to clear the Act III content in this run.

Finally finished up last night, what a fantastic game. Spent a bunch of time grinding up Lumina and looking for the right picto build out to take out the endgame side content. I was in the 90's when I finally worked my way to the last area and absolutely crushed the last boss in a single round per phase.

Want to do another run, but will probably put it down until some DLC comes out and tackle it together.

Just finished this today.. great story.. amazing game . Think I might go back and play the other ending

I’ve never played a game with a story that good
Yeah, it's up there with the greats, and I guarantee they are in the midst of a bidding war for the rights to turn it into a movie/TV series. It just keeps driving you forward. For a JRPG, there are no dull moments in the game, and that's no easy feat. Even grinding is fun, because the combat system is so damn perfect.

And to think, this is a supposed "AA" game. They just told the other smaller studios out there, that there are no more excuses.

I think it’s already in development .. a movie that is . That’s what my friend told me so not sure but I googled it and the Ai thing said there was also.

I think I'd rather have a three season TV series, but a movie will suffice. In all honesty, it's probably the best new original IP I've seen in a LONG time in any medium, in terms of it's storytelling. Outside of it's core story, you could do so much with that universe.

Finished the game and it was amazing. Story, writing, music, combat, pacing, exploration, I just enjoyed everything about it.

I really hope some of the big JRPG devs learn from this game and stop with the same old shitty characters and "power of friendship" stories.

My only points of criticism are the messy UI for skills and pictos and that combat turned into auto pilot mode later on and didn't really require strategy anymore since you could just nuke most encounters down before they attack. Maybe that changes in the harder optional stuff later on, haven't done that yet.

9.5/10

The optional stuff is definitely next level, and gives the game some serious legs. I beat my first run at like level 55 or so, and ignored most of the side stuff. Second run was like Level 83, and some of the side stuff was pretty tough even at that level, and I still skipped some of it because it was a bit much.

Incredible game, but I am on the final optional boss, and it is just not fair.

Seemed fair enough to me but honestly I didn't even attempt to try and beat him. Got to his second phase and just didn't feel like learning anymore patterns or anything like that and moved on. Maybe look up some OP builds and get it done that way.

This looks like the kind of game I would have liked back in the PS1 and PS2 days but I dont know if I can play any more.

He has a move that wipes automatically your entire party that you cannot parry or dodge or survive. Forces you to play with your reserve team.

If you haven't spent resources on them and don't have them by this point you're screwed. My reserve party has barely any Lumina points, and I didnt bother unlocking any of Monocos skills. So you're forced to cheese the boss.

Even the second chance pico doesn't work?
