Multiplat Official Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Discussion

I see what you're saying. I was easily able to brush it off because well those people are all going to die no matter what. Even if you side with Maelle. Yes they will get more time but when Maelle eventually dies the father will destroy the painting. At least with Verso you get to attempt to save the gods who maybe will go on to create a new world and new life. On top of that allowing the painting to continue involves way to much suffering. The mom and daughter will most likely die. The man who created that whole world has a piece of his soul trapped in it and doesn't want to do it anymore. Also I just don't feel the brother sacrificed his life to save Maelle only to turn around and have her die in his painting\world that he created. The whole story seemed to be about grief and learning how to move on. I do agree that each outcome is bittersweet but overall one outcome has a real future while the other just leads to the whole world and the gods being destroyed. At best the father and sister live and who knows how well they'll be able to handle even more death in their family.
Good points overall. Made me think more about the ending. I think they did a wonderful job with this game. Do you see any other games dethroning this one for your goty?

I hope something does but I just don't see it happening. KCD2 IMO was the only game that could do it but I'm 25+ hours in and it's amazing but E33 was just better. Nothing else is coming out this year that I can see beating it. I loved GOT and DS but I don't see the sequels being better than E33 when I didn't even think the original games were better.

Damn, that hidden battle arena is crazy for grinding. I stumbled upon it too late in my first run for it to really boost me(or I didn't notice because I was too far into it), but on this run I hit right after I got the fat dude. It's like a level every fight. It's crazy. You get like 20,000exp each fight which lasts about a minute. You don't get that much EXP for anything else. Had like a 10 minute fight with one of those giant dudes on the map. 14,000exp. I think I went from Level 15 to 30 in about a half an hour in that place, and only stopped because I was getting bored.

Unfortunately, it makes the campaign portions kind of trivial. I beat that Lightmaster thing at the act one in like three turns, LOL.

Choosing goty gets tricky because there's two different camps. Some people decide game of the year from a more critical perspective looking at all categories such as music, story, gameplay, impact on the genre, etc. When judged like this I think E33 is going to be very hard to beat this year. However, there are others that simply choose game of the year based on hours played or how much fun they've had with it. If I'm judging as a critic E33 takes it so far but for fun factor alone I may enjoy something like Ninja Gaiden 4 or Yotei more by the end of the year. Anyway, should be interesting to see how people rate their favorite games at the end of the year. I'll definitely be making a thread on it late November or early December.

Good part of the way through chapter 2. This game is incredible. I'm completely sucked in. 10/10 and I haven't even finished it.
It's perfection. I don't think I've come across a negative opinion other than "It's just not for me", which is fair enough, since it is a JRPG at the end of the day. That's it, though. Absolutely nothing about it's gameplay or story, other some complaints about certain platforming challenges the game really wasn't built for.

Enjoy. It never quits. One of the tightest games I've ever played. I went right back to it to replay it. I NEVER do that with games. They hit a sweet spot that very few ever do.

Wrong thread perhaps? Anyway it’s probably going to be terrible. There’s barely any dialogue in those games
Yeah, for some reason I thought it was the Clair Obscur movie. Weird day. There is a Clair Obscur movie coming too, but no real info yet.

And yeah, Elden Ring movie is an odd choice.

Not sure how people are getting the insane damage. My max so far is 45million with Maelle.

Finally got a chance to fire this up over the long weekend. Huge fan of JRPGs, and this is everything i hoped it would be. Loving the combat, story and graphics are fantastic. Didn't think I would live the streamlined inventory/items, but actually really love it. I tend to hoard resources thinking I'll save it for when I really need something, only to get to the last boss with a stockpile of items if never be able to use.

Just got the ability to travel over water, so backtracking a good bit and grabbing up things that are open. Found a giant water boss that I absolutely shouldn't be fighting, so that was great.

So close to being able ti kill Simon before he can act in his second phase. I get him down to about a few million but I can’t quite find a way to get that extra damage. I’m so damn close to getting a full 3 charge gradient attack on the first turn, but can’t quite get there.

Got Simon. Couldn’t finish him in turn one but got him on the second turn. Gommage hit for 60m damage.

On one hand I feel cheap for not having learned his moves to parry, but I had more fun experimenting with pictos, weapons and party to try and kill him before he could move.

I do the same thing. The one time I didn't (Daybreak 1) I had a ton of trouble with the final boss which could have easily been solved if I wouldn't have wasted my full heal\CP\MP items on previous bosses. Bosses I could have beaten without using those items but I was trying not to hoard so much.

10/10 from Angry Joe

I'm wondering if any prominent critic even gave it an average review.

It's quite easily GOTY, and a game that will go down with the all time greats, like FFVII, Mass Effect, MGS, etc. I bet we see a movie or TV series within five years. It lends itself to the screen. It would be so easy to make a movie trilogy out of this. The story beats are right there. Act 1, Act 2, Act 3....Oscar material. Legendary movie trilogy.

In terms of fantasy worlds and stories, I haven't seen anything like this in a long time. Wholly original, knocked it out of the park...could easily be a new Star Wars or LOTR franchise. I'll bet that "Sandfall" company can barely hang up the phone for two seconds, with Hollywood studios looking to grab the license.
