Multiplat Official Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Discussion

Nothing works. He erases the entire crew, no questions asked.
AH damn didn't know that. Still think I could get it done with Maelle on one team and then Monocco and Versae in the other team. I can't be bothered working that hard for it though.

This is the best turn based RPG I've ever played. It will easily be in my top favorite games ever as well. Playing on expert is a must imo. I enjoy the long grindy fights where you must improve to win.

I love parts of this game but can only play in spurts. The combat gets repetitive.

I just beat
which feels like a conclusion to Act 2. It was a very enjoyable fight, but so intense. My main team is Ciel, Lune and Verso, and I was literally attacking (double attack) once then immediately reviving/healing another member because of his big cat. Luckily, he only did his attack once and it was to Verso, my strongest lmao. Even at level 50-55 it was a competitive fight.

<DCrying>10/10, unquestionably game of the year. Will be uncontested.

It's crazy how nearly everyone is giving the game 10 out of 10 but since beating it I kind of soured in it just slightly. There are flaws here. I thought the locations were just average, act 3 somewhat disappointing, and combat getting a bit stale towards the end. Still think its a 8.5 or 9 out of 10 and deserves to be a game of the year contender. Anyone else feel the same way as me months after? Sometimes a game that feels like a masterpiece upon completion goes down for me over time. I've had the opposite happen too. Games that felt like 8 or 9 out of 10 then ended up getting scored higher a few months later when I had more time to let it sink in.

I think it's a 9.

Act 3 could have been paced a bit better, and the game leans in too much to trial and error.

The game is an absolute masterclass as an art form though.

I still think it's a 10/10 but I do agree there are issues. To me though 10/10 doesn't mean that there aren't any issues or that it's a perfect game. I thought the dungeons were average at best but at the same time they kept them short so it was a nice balance. Honestly these days though when it comes to JRPGs dungeons are just crap and I think the JRPG genre could really benefit from games with more complex/interactive dungeons. Act 3 was actually perfect for me because it basically opens up a bunch of side stuff but lets you get to the end of the story right away. Which I wish a lot of games would do.

Another complaint is that the game doesn't lead you more. I get it for the immersion and stuff but I think after beating the game they should start giving you a road map of some sort of what to do next for post game dungeons\story. I shouldn't have to be roaming around all over the place looking for what to do next or looking online.

I feel like they kind of did that though with the quests you get at camp while relationship building. They marked each of the characters quest on the map. But I get what you mean overall. There’s side quests you get early on that are cryptic as hell. Never ended up solving any of them. I didn’t get for the platinum for that reason. I really dislike looking stuff up. It takes up a lot of time to be going back and forth between my phone and my TV. I beat it and feel satisfied.

Thinking about getting it from all the rave reviews but never really play RPGs other than Witcher 3 and FF7 Remake. If I enjoyed those, would I like this too?

Yea for the side quest related to characters they did it fine. It was more so the other side quest and specifically post game. Post game is just a mystery and they just want you to go everywhere exploring aimlessly and I'm not a fan of that for this type of game.

This game is different than both of those when it comes to gameplay so I'm not sure if you would like this. When it comes to the story I'm sure you'd love it but I don't know if the gameplay would be for you.

My group are all lvl 99 with lvl 33 weapons and 700 luminas for each toon

I can 2-shot Simon's 2nd phase

Agree with that, but I just think they needed something like simple map markers to tell you what you've done and what you haven't. After a while of playing, some of the areas are just like "Wait, have I already been here?"

Just something like a heads up marker telling you if you've cleared the area or not, would've made a world a difference in the end game. That said, there is a methodology to not giving you that heads up, and making you work for the ultimate completion of the game. It clearly was heavily inspired by the "Souls" series, after all. Lots of people like that cryptic shit, where you have to discover stuff on your own. That said, it ain't even close the "Souls" series, when it comes to that nonsense. At least you don't have to do things in a very specific and nonsensical order to clear certain content.

The only thing holding it back for some, is it's turn based battle system. It's better than most, and dare I say revolutionary for JRPGs, but at the end of the day, it's still turn based. Other than that, it's a game that needs to be played. It's not just a great game, but they've created a world that will likely be adapted into a TV show or movie franchise. It's EASILY the best game I've played since "The Witcher 3". Just stay the hell away from spoilers, though, because the story is a big part of it's appeal. The gameplay is nice, but without the story, it's nothing all that special.

I am in Act 3 now with my team at lvl 62-56. I tackled Frozen Hearts which was a pain for so much time, but since I got the 9999+ dmg picto to start Act 3 and my parries were sound, it made going through the level so much easier. The Chromatic boss was surprisingly easy, too.

Right now I am trying out some of the 'Danger' areas, beating some previously tough Chromatic bosses and ticking off some of the trophy bosses and relationship levels. It may take a long time to reach lvl 80-85, which I need to be to tackle some tough bosses that have one/two-shotted me. I am really considering the Act 3 XP farm lol

There's some area with those weird enemies with the hands, that's an excellent grinding spot. I believe it's the beach where you initially got attacked on at the beginning of the game. They're annoying enemies, but you get tons of EXP from them.

I spent around an hour farming them until I got to level 80-85. I felt OP until I started the Endless tower. Even Lampmaster (in the Painter's Workshop) could one hit my team with his sword swipe. I guess I am not too OP, but the last few stages of the Endless Tower & Renoir's area are the only places that awaits me before returning to Lumiere.
